Birchbox Review: October 2012

This month Birchbox partnered up with Goop and gave the subscribers a choice to opt in for a special Goop-curated box. Those who choose not to opt-in would receive a Transformation-themed box. I chose the Goop one and ended up pretty happy with what I got!

About Birchbox:
Birchbox is a subscription service that delivers a box of luxury samples to your doorstep every month. Each box is customized to match your beauty profile to ensure you get the samples you want, you will usually get 4-5 samples and sometimes even full-sized products! The samples vary from make-up and skincare, to food and beauty accessories, and each box is carefully hand-wrapped. At $10/month Birchbox is one of the cheapest monthly beauty subscriptions out there, the value of each box usually ranges from at least $15 and can be as high as $60. They also have a nice rewards program, where for each product survey you complete you get 10 points, every 100 points earns you $10 in Birchbox credits which you can redeem in their online store for full-sized products. Click here to join Birchbox.

1. DDF Brightening Cleanser (4.5oz)
This is a very generous sample – it will last me several months for sure! This cleanser contains glycolic and salicylic acids to gently exfoliate the skin and even out the complexion. I have been using glycolic cleansers for a while now so this is a very nice addition to my collection.

2. per-fékt beauty Lip Perfection Gel in Melrose (0.05oz)
As much as I disliked getting the tiny little sample dot, the product is actually awesome. It’s super hydrating and feels like butter on the lips. The color is also very flattering, although it didn’t look all that appealing before I swatched it.

It’s actually not brown on the lips at all, it’s more of a muddy dark pink color which surprisingly looks pretty good. Cheers to giving everything a chance! 🙂

3. OROFLUIDO Elixir (0.17)
I’ve been eyeing this hair oil for a while now, hoping to break my birchbox points piggy bank once I collect enough. Which is why I’m so glad to see it in my box this month! The reviews about this elixir are amazing, wherever I go there are people recommending it left and right and I was about to cave 🙂 I have very frizzy hair so I use oils all the time after washing or I end up looking like a red dandelion. From what I heard a little goes a long way and hopefully it works as well for me as it did for others.

4. Caudalie Vinoperfect Complexion Correcting Radiance Serum (0.06oz)
It’s a small sample which will last me maybe 5 applications but I’m still glad I got to try something new from Caudalie. It’s one of my favorite French cosmetic brands and I’m always very excited about their products. It’s also good to know that this serum is free of parabens, sulfates and oil byproducts.

5. [Extra] Mighty Leaf Tea Assortment (3pc)
I’m a big time tea snob, one of those people who love stopping by overpriced Teavana stores every time I walk by to sample some of their blends. I enjoy both tea bags and whole leaf teas and always looking for new blends and tastes, so I was happy to finally receive tea in my Birchbox. The three samples I got were “Organic African Nectar”, “Organic Earl Grey” and “Green Tea Tropical”. I’m most intrigued about the last one because I love green tea more than any other kind 🙂

To sum it up, I think I got a perfect box this month. I can use — and will enjoy using — every single item I received!
