Birchbox Review: September 2012

Birchbox always sets a theme for their boxes, and this this month’s theme is The September Issue. There are 29 box variations with dozens of different products; I received a box #12. For me this was the best box I have received from them because I loved every single product, even the Color Club polish.

1. Birchbox and Color Club® Custom Collection Nail Polish in Insta-This (0.25oz) – $4.00
The polish I got was this cobalt blue color, and unlike other Color Club polishes this one didn’t streak. I think they might have listened to the feedback and improved their formula a little. I say “a little” because it still chips after one day, and I’m not the only one who experienced that. I normally don’t have to do much housework so my manicure usually lasts about 5-7 days without cracking or chipping, but unfortunately although the color is absolutely gorgeous, this polish started peeling off in about 10 hours after the application. I still plan on using it for pedicure because the color lasts a lot longer there.

2. Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm SPF 25+ (0.1oz) – $1.88
At first I didn’t like this sample too much because they apparently don’t fill up the sample bottle to the max, so I ended up having a lot of air in my tube and not a lot of product. But I was pleasantly surprised with this BB cream, it blended perfectly with my skin and even covered some minor imperfections like slight redness and old post-acne marks. I think this will be one of the products I will end up spending my points on 🙂

3. Fekkai Salon Technician Color Care Shampoo and Conditioner (0.3oz and 0.3oz) – $1.86
I personally prefer to use shampoos without sulfates in them to make sure my hair color is protected, but this one was alright. It felt gentle enough, so it might be used once a week instead of your usual sulfate-free shampoo to remove the build-up from the hair. The conditioner is nice and, well, conditioning. I didn’t notice a lot of frizz so I only used my glossing serum afterwards.

4. twistband Hair Tie (1ct) – $1.50
I think this is one of those items that you either love or hate. I know many girls who were bummed to receive it in their boxes, but I actually loved my green hair band. I think the color complements my red hair and looks super cute!

5. Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator (0.7oz) – $5.66
Very gentle and very effective! I think this scrub is ideal for people with sensitive skin, I really liked the neutral smell and the consistency. Sometimes my skin feels a little bumpy and this scrub instantly removed them after just one use.

6. The Brush Guard Variety Pack (4ct) – $5.50
I was excited to receive these brush guards in my box, they became a perfect match with my brushes! I really think I should purchase more of those 🙂
