Ipsy/MyGlam Review: October 2012

This month I finally caved and decided to give Ipsy a try and really glad I did. I was a little prejudiced about them previously seeing how they sent out brand-less Chinese brushes and poor quality makeup bags. I also was not a fan of those crazy colored nail polishes. But after peeking into October spoilers I knew I couldn’t miss this one! The brands and the assortment of products were top-notch and the quality of the bag itself improved drastically. And most importantly: our beauty profiles were actually taken into consideration, because every item in my bag was totally “me”.

About Ipsy/MyGlam:

1. Coastal Scents Eye Shadow Quad in Maroon Berry, Flesh Tone, Caramel and Light Bronze (0.07oz)
Coastal Scents makes affordable highly pigmented eye shadows and I instantly fell in love with the colors. I would normally never wear the mustard-looking one but it worked out beautifully and I’m amazed at how well the color suits me.
2. Couture Colour Pequi Oil Treatment (0.5oz)
I use hair oils to battle frizz every day and I’m always excited to try new brands. Although I do kind of feel that I’ve received too many hair oil/serum samples across my subscriptions lately, I know all of them will be loved and used. This one smells really nice and made my hair look and feel very smooth with minimal frizz. I also heard that after a while it might even seal split ends back together, so we’ll see about that.
3. Be A Bombshell Eye Liner in Onyx
The application was smooth and even though I’m terrible at making thin and precise lines, something about this liner made it super easy! So it really worked out well for me, because quite honestly I almost gave up on eye liners 🙂
4. Mirenesse Lip Bomb Glossy Lacquer Stain in Bomb 9
Super interesting product! It’s a lip gloss with the full coverage of a highly-pigmented lipstick, and I’ve never tried anything like this before. The applicator is shaped like number 8 and that really helped spread out the color evenly. For matte finish I just had to lightly press my lips on a paper towel, and although the gloss was gone the pigment was still there. Really impressed with this one!
5. theBalm What’s Your Type? “the body builder” Black Mascara (0.11oz)
This mascara does exactly what it advertises – builds the body of your lashes, making them look thicker and longer. It however does not provide any volume, which is why you either have to pair it up with a volumizing mascara or use a mascara primer like I did.
And here is a little something extra for you – my FOTD using the products I received in this month’s Ipsy bag so you all get to see how good of a job Ipsy stylists are doing at matching the products to our beauty profiles. Enjoy!
The value of this month’s bag is amazing and I also enjoyed all of the products I received.
