Influenster VoxBox Review: Beauty Blogger – 2012

Hooray, I have finally received my first ever VoxBox! Everyone who was selected will get a “Beauty Blogger” box filled with the latest goodies from well-known companies like Kiss, Goody, NYC, Bath & Body Works and more. Currently Influenster is an invite-only community so if you would like to join please leave your email in the comments and I’ll send one to you. And don’t forget to format it in a weird way to protect yourself from the spammers. Here’s a good example: bacon (at) bacon dot com. I only have 5 invites to give out so they are on first come first serve basis. Now onto the box contents!

1. Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin
I have never heard about this product and never seen anybody use it, maybe because they’re invisible once you “screw” them into your hair. I thought they were very easy to use and I could have figured out the styles without even looking at the instructions. These pins actually held my hair quite well, but my do didn’t look nearly as glamorous as it did in the pictures on the box. My guess is these are meant for people with medium straight hair, while mine is long, straight and very fine. I can see myself using them at home or while running errands, but if I want to look nice I will have to use something else that gives me volume instead. This is really a good product, just not for me apparently.

2. NYC New York Color IndividualEyes Custom Compact Eyeshadow in Dark Shadows
I’m usually not the black&white makeup kind of girl but I wanted to give these a try. The colors are fairly pigmented and I had no problems applying them. The primer wasn’t all that great – the eye shadow ended up creasing after a couple of hours. I will make a separate post with swatches later for the Brand Challenge.

3. Not Your Mother’s Smooth Moves Frizz Control Hair Cream
This frizz-control cream was pretty good and I didn’t have any major complaints. It was slightly too thick and waxy compared to my usual leave-in treatment so it took me some effort to spread it evenly throughout my hair. Even though it says on the package that my hair will be straight and frizz-free if I let it air-dry I can tell it really needs a blow-dry job to really straighten everything well. I also loved the smell because it reminded me of a much more expensive Gloss Moderne hair care series and their signature fragrance “Coco de Soleil”.

 4. Kiss Ever PRO Lash Starter Kit
I was surprised to find out that these lashes are made from real human hair because they actually didn’t feel very natural. Not that it’s a bad thing, I just thought it was an interesting thing to know. I don’t think this particular kit is for the day wear: the lashes are thick and full and very extravagant looking. Can’t comment on the glue because I did not use it since I already have an open one from Georgie. The lashes actually look amazing in person, and I will use them again for some fancy occasion – I have many coming up!

5. Bath & Body Works Mini Candle in Pumpkin Cupcake
I’m a big time candle lover so I was very excited to receive one in my VoxBox! I loved the way this candle smelled in the jar, and the scent is very season-appropriate. The throw was a bit weak but I think it’s because the candle is so small. When I put it on the computer desk next to me I could smell the fragrance quite well. I also got a coupon for a $10 any 3-wick candle and used it right away. I ended up getting two candles: one in Honeysuckle, another in Creamy Pumpkin, according to reviews both are amazing!

6. eBoost Drink Mix in Orange
I’m familiar with eBoost because I received a full-sized pack from Klout a few months ago. Sometimes I have it in the morning for a quick pick me up effect. The flavor is pretty good and I like that it’s all-natural.
