Paul & Joe Pearl Primer Muscadet 004 & Pinot Noir 003 (Swatches and Review)
If you haven’t heard of Paul & Joe Beaute yet, be sure to check out my previous blog post where I shared a brief introduction to the brand. The quality of Paul & Joe makeup is generally pretty good, but I think their primers are the real standouts. They come in all variations: color-correcting, moisturizing, illuminating, smoothing, mattifying etc… But regardless of the formula, they all share a comfortable, lightweight texture that never feels heavy on the skin and plays well with skincare.

I recently added two new Paul & Joe color-correcting Pearl Foundation Primers in Muscadet 004 and Pinot Noir 003 ($36 each) to my collection. They were both released in limited quantities for Autumn 2019 and feature unique pearls inspired by the seasonal green and red grapes. The formula also boasts an impressive array of botanical extracts and three molecular weights of Hyaluronic Acid.
Pinot Noir leans warm and contains red, pink, and gold pearls that brighten a dull complexion and give warm radiance to the skin. Muscadet is cool-toned, with silver, platinum, and green-ish pearls that brighten and neutralize redness. Although both of these primers look bright in the bottle, once they are applied to the skin, the pigments sheer out seamlessly to provide subtle color-correction, leaving you with a nicely prepped canvas.

WHAT I LIKE:
I like the packaging: those weighty glass bottles with pump dispensers are both luxe and hygienic. I also like the subtle glow the primers leave on the skin. It’s neither shimmery nor dewy, rather it imparts a healthy luster since the pearls are made with very finely milled powder.
WHAT I DON’T LIKE:
Paul & Joe Pearl Foundation Primers do contain added fragrance but it’s listed last on the ingredient list, indicating the lowest possible concentration. However, fragrance can be sensitizing even in small amounts, so just to be safe I’d stay away from these if I was someone with really sensitive skin. For everyone else, you guys know the drill: patch test first before putting anything on your face.

BOTTOM LINE:
Paul & Joe Beaute Pearl Foundation Primers are great for someone looking to add more moisturizing ingredients to their routine without having to slather on another layer of essence or serum. These primers will also work well to visually brighten the skin and smooth the surface for a more even makeup application. The formula does mention silicones but they are found in the middle of the ingredient list so smoothing properties mostly come from three kinds of Hyaluronic Acid that will help keeps the skin stay better hydrated. Overall, these pearl primers are just as lovely as the other ones I tried from Paul & Joe. The only potential con I can think of is the added fragrance which can be found at the very end of the ingredient list, so the concentration is minimal.
