Don’t even get me started about my lips! I often post bare skin selfies, so you probably already noticed how hopelessly chapped and dry my lips can be, even when they’re at their best. That’s why I try to make sure there’s some kind of treatment on them at all times, so lip balms are basically my best friends. I have one tucked away in every purse, makeup bag, and coat pocket, so that I have one on hand if I need it.
I’m not all that picky about my lip treatments, to be honest. As long as they help my lips stay soft and hydrated, that’s good enough for me. But still, I have a slight preference toward more botanical formulations, like the new Burt’s Bees Lip Butters ($4.99). After all, it’s not uncommon to “eat” your lip products throughout the day, so I’d rather ingest something that’s made with beeswax and shea butter instead of petrolatum if that makes sense.
With that said, I was excited to see these new lip butters on the shelves at ULTA Beauty. They are currently available in four delightful flavors:
- Vanilla Clove [limited edition]
- Lavender & Honey
- Orange Blossom & Pistachio
- Rosemary & Lemon
I don’t think many people realize that Burt’s Bees is also one of the champions among popular drugstore beauty brands when it comes to sustainability efforts. The company used to release long and comprehensive yearly sustainability reports until 2012, which have since been replaced with shorter, more engaging and reader-friendly sustainability goals. You can check out their current goals for 2020 here.
Burt’s Bees Lip Butters are 100% natural, made with responsibly sourced shea butter, and the little tin container they come in is fully recyclable. Staying true to their zero waste policy, the company offers free recycling on select products, you just need to fill out the form on this page to receive a prepaid mailing label to send your empty tin and they will properly recycle it for you. I’m so proud to be supporting this brand after learning about everything they do for the environment!
Because the texture is more buttery than waxy, Burt’s Bees Lip Butters are not suitable to be used as a lipstick primer, in my opinion. I mean, I tried, but the lipstick just slides off because they make my lips feel very soft, smooth and a little bit slippery. I prefer to use the butters on their own throughout the day when I’m at home or just running errands. They make the perfect addition to any casual, low key beauty routine, plus, they all smell so good! I’m particularly fond of Vanilla Clove and Rosemary & Lemon: the former is sitting on my bedside table to be used at night, and the latter is feeling right at home on my work desk so I could touch up throughout the day. I also have the Orange Blossom & Pistachio tin in my travel makeup bag that I plan to bring along on a small weekend getaway that’s coming up. Love the bright orange packaging, it really stands out in the bag so it will be easy to find.
You can grab your own tin of Burt’s Bees Lip Butter [or several!] at ULTA Beauty for $4.99/each.
