I don’t really talk much about drugs and supplements here, but lately I keep getting asked if I take anything for nails and hair, and the answer is – yes, I am. Initially designed for Paris Fashion Week, HUM Nutrition Runway Ready pouches have been my supplement of choice for the past several weeks, and before that I took plain old Biotin. I would have continued to take Biotin alone, but I thought that adding other beauty supplements won’t hurt, because I currently don’t take any multivitamins, and rely solely on meals to provide me with nutrients.
Runway Ready comes in a tall pink box, that kind of looks like a pack of tea bags. It contains 30 individually wrapped pouches with two Red Carpet soft gels and one Killer Nails capsule in each, that have to be taken with food [I take mine in the morning with a cup of tea and a bowl of oatmeal]. I like that the pouches are bright and fun, so they’re hard to miss; that’s why I haven’t skipped a day yet.
So, what’s inside of these magical pills, anyway?
Red Carpet [also sold individually here] contains Alpha- and Gamma-Linolenic Acids from Blackcurrant Seed Oil, and Vitamin E, derived from Sunflower Oil, that together help support glowing skin and hair follicle health. It’s also one of the most raved-about supplements from HUM Nutrition [just take a look at the reviews on Sephora.com or elsewhere, and you’ll see what I mean], which was also featured in Vogue magazine.
Killer Nails [sold individually here] contains 5,000mcg of Biotin, which I personally found to be my perfect dosage of this supplement. It’s necessary for cell growth and the production and metabolism of fat into amino acids, but for us it basically means fuller and longer hair, and stronger nails. HUM Nutrition recommends taking Biotin for at least three months to see its full potential.
After four weeks I noticed a slow gradual improvement to the texture of my hair – it seemed thicker somehow, which in turn made it look fuller. Along with this conditioner, and Runway Ready pouches, I discovered that it’s actually possible to “fertilize” hair. As for my nails, they’re still in great shape, because I’ve been taking Biotin for months now. For me it’s a tried and tested supplement that actually works and provides great results.
HUM Nutrition prides itself on the purity of their supplements, and formulated Runway Ready without the use of sulfates, parabens, and phthalates. The ingredients for these non-GMO, gluten-free and fully vegan/vegetarian pills are sustainably sourced and don’t contain any artificial agents.
P.S.: There are a couple other HUM Nutrition products I want to tell you about, so stay tuned for another post soon!
WHERE TO BUY: $35 USD for 1 box. Available at HUM Nutrition, Sephora.

Hmmm, this is really interesting! I loved what Biotin was doing for my skin and nails, but it always made my hair grow out too fast and I couldn’t afford to start dying my hair more often! 😛 I’m going to have to look into HUM as a company though, I love that packaging and their philosophy seems pretty cool too!
Girl, that’s totally the downside of taking Biotin – my nails and hair grow so much faster, although to me the results are worth it 🙂
I take 5mcg of biotin and it is a must for my hair and nails. I also like to take collagen and HA. Do they make a supplement like that? I love the packaging
They have a pretty extensive assortment of supplements, I’m sure they have something with collagen in it, too. You should definitely check out humnutrition.com!
I take hair skin and nails, plus a vitamin called Spiralina and it is amazing. My nails grow pretty fast but I keep them shorter. I have tried HUM once before and loved the results!
Oh nice! I heard about spirulina, it’s some kind of green powder that has a TON of natural protein. And good to know you liked HUM supplements, too! I look forward to buying their products in the future when this one runs out 🙂
I love taking biotin. I need to give this a try.
Biotin is the bomb! I think it’s probably the most effective supplement I’ve used, because the results are pretty drastic.
I take a multivitamin for women and Calcium with vitamin D. I’ve never tried HUM, but after reading about the results, I may need to try it.
I was told to start taking Vitamin D too, because I don’t tan. It’s so nice that we don’t need the sun for that one anymore!
I am taking Neocell Collagen Beauty Builder. It seems to me that it has made my hair thicker and if before there was zero volume, then now my hair is more voluminous even without using a bunch of products.
That sounds really nice! I plan to start taking collagen soon, too.
Something to try when I am not prego!
I am really liking it so far! And I know that goes without saying, but make sure to consult your physician first 🙂
Thanks for sharing your regimen!!
Always happy to share!
I used those vitamins and was sorry when my packets were gone. I need to repurchase them.
I have maybe 3 or 4 packets left, and I plan to purchase more. No wonder they are rated so high on Sephora website!
Supplements like these are great to fill in gaps in the diet!
That’s for sure! I try not to take multivitamins, because my diet is pretty balanced, so I get most of my nutrients with food already. However, my hair and nails could definitely use some help!
I take Vitamin E and regular multivits for women
That’s great to know! Now I gotta learn all of your beauty secrets so I look as good as you 😀
Well, if that pix of your hair yesterday is any indication, your hair is benefiting from these vitamins! Gorgeous tresses.
Thanks Nidia! I am definitely seeing positive changes, which I attribute to these vitamins. I am almost out, and I think I will splurge for another box.
Ohh I would love to try the nail one!
The nail one is basically biotin, and I’m not sure how different they are from the regular store-bought pills. I know HUM uses exclusive oils for their supplements, so maybe this particular biotin is also special.
I don’t take supplements but I used to. I need to get back to it. There’s definitely a noticeable difference vs when I do and don’t take them.
Good to know that I’m not alone in noticing positive results from the supplements. There are people who tell me that vitamins are pointless, but I just can’t argue with the results I’m seeing in the mirror.
I am big on supplements and when I am not on them, I feel it. I do CoQ10 and fish oil plus Biotin (so totally agree it is great).
Ooh, CoQ10! I heard good things about it, but never tried it myself. I used to take krill oil (same omega 3-6-9s as fish, but less fishy), but stopped for a while. Thanks for reminding me to get back on it! I eat a lot of seafood as it is, but I don’t think I’m getting enough omegas.
I think I need to get back on my supplement game!
Comments in this post reminded me about the supplements I should be taking, so that makes two of us 🙂 I mean, how could I forget to start taking fish oil again, that was so basic and I used to take it regularly for years!
I’ve been needing new supplements, and the packaging has totally won me over!
Right? The presentation makes taking these supplements a fun thing to do 🙂
