Christmas is right around the corner, but there’s still time to shop for gifts! We all have that one person in our lives who has seemingly perfect hair. No, they were not born with it, but we’d never know if we didn’t see their stash of shampoos, conditioners, masques and special treatments to address just about any hairmergency that could arise. This gift guide is for the haircare fanatics in your life, as well as for someone who would probably love to get products like these in their Holiday stocking. After all, what girl doesn’t instantly feel better when she’s having a good hair day? 🙂
FOR OILY ROOTS: Just like combination skin on your face, oily roots on your head need to be re-balanced. Lucky for us, DESSANGE Paris developed a line of products designed just for that! Try Purifying Clay Balancing Shampoo and Pre-Shampoo Mask to cleanse the roots weighed down by excess oil and bring back that bouncy volume.
WHERE TO BUY:
- Purifying Clay Balancing Shampoo – $9.99 USD for 8.5 oz. Available at Target.
- Purifying Clay Balancing Pre-Shampoo Mask – $11.99 USD for 5.1 oz. Available at Target.
FOR DAMAGED HAIR: Until a few years back [before I started taking hair supplements], my hair was permanently damaged. We’re talking split ends, breakage, uneven texture, and just an overall lifeless look. While the damage can’t be repaired, there are products that can make your hair look good until those healthy strands grow out. I recently tried HASK Argan Oil Repairing line, and those products left a great first impression, plus they’re very inexpensive. These would make a fabulous stocking stuffer!
WHERE TO BUY:
- Repairing Shampoo – $5.99 USD for 12 fl oz. Available at Ulta.
- Repairing Conditioner – $5.99 USD for 12 fl oz. Available at Ulta.
- Healing Shine Hair Treatment – $1.99 USD for 0.625 oz. Available at Target.
FOR FRIZZY HAIR: That’s my problem right here! When Winter comes I turn into a walking dandelion, because my baby fine hair gets all static and frizzy. REDKEN Frizz Dismiss line was developed to address just that with gentle sulfate-free formulas that nourish the strands and make each hair shaft look smoother. Bonus tip: if you live by the beach, take note of Frizz Dismiss Smooth Force spray. It will protect your hair from the sun, reduce frizz, and preserve the color.
WHERE TO BUY:
- Frizz Dismiss Shampoo – $31.50 USD for 33.8 oz. Available at Ulta.
- Frizz Dismiss Conditioner – $35.50 USD for 33.8 oz. Available at Ulta.
- Frizz Dismiss Smooth Force Spray – $22 USD for 5.0 oz. Available at Ulta.
FOR CURLY HAIR: SheaMoisture has been known to curly-haired ladies for a while now, so there’s no surprise that it made my hit list. I particularly love their Superfruit 10-in-1 Renewal System line, infused with Marula oil and Biotin to hydrate, smooth, nourish, and detangle the hair without causing buildup.
WHERE TO BUY:
- SuperFruit Masque – $12.99 USD for 12 oz. Available at Ulta.
- SuperFruit Shampoo – $10.99 USD for 13 oz. Available at Ulta.
FOR BEACH WAVES: Tousled messy beach waves are still in, thanks to Victoria’s Secret models and high fashion shows, and I don’t think the trend is going to fade anytime soon. If you or your giftee love to sport the look, why not introduce them to John Frieda’s Beach Blonde line? You don’t need to be a blonde or live by the beach to enjoy these products! I’ve been rocking tousled waves all summer, and Beach Blonde Sea Waves Sea Salt Spray was pivotal in achieving that style.
WHERE TO BUY:
- Beach Blonde Sea Waves Sea Salt Spray – $8.99 USD for 3.5 oz. Available at Target.
- Beach Blonde Cool Dip Purifying Shampoo – $8.99 USD for 10 oz. Available at Target.
- Beach Blonde Smooth Seas Detangling Conditioner – $8.99 USD for 10 oz. Available at Target.
FOR FINE HAIR: There are a lot of good products for fine hair on the market, but lately I’ve been using Fekkai Hair Refresher Dry Shampoo and Sheer Hold Hairspray to keep my ‘dos under control. They both give my flat locks some great texture and hold without weighing it down, and a dab of PrX Reparatives Mending Elixir adds lots of shine!
WHERE TO BUY:
- Blowout Hair Refresher Dry Shampoo – $20 USD for 4.9 oz. Available at Birchbox.
- Sheer Hold Hairspray – $20 USD for 8 oz. Available at Birchbox.
- PrX Reparatives Mending Elixir – $25 USD for 1.6 oz. Available at Birchbox.
FOR BRITTLE HAIR: Any hair type can turn brittle during the Winter months, after all cold air and indoor heating can ruin even the most nourished hair if it isn’t given proper care. Personally, I tend to gravitate toward heavier shampoos and conditioners, because the cold season here in Michigan is no joke. A few weeks ago I tried Proganix Quench line and was left very pleased with the outcome. Not only did these products make my hair feel thicker and more moisturized, they also brought the scents of summer into this snowed in apartment 🙂 P.S.: Avoid these if you don’t like coconut fragrance.
WHERE TO BUY:
- Quench Moisturizing + Nourish Shampoo – $9.99 USD for 8.5 oz. Available at Drugstore.com.
- Quench Moisturizing + Nourish Conditioner – $9.99 USD for 8.5 oz. Available at Drugstore.com.
- Quench Leave-In Moisture + Nourish – $11.99 USD for 5.1 oz. Available at Drugstore.com.
- Quench Moisture Balm + Nourish – $11.99 USD for 6 oz. Available at Drugstore.com.
FOR DRY HAIR: Is your or your giftee’s hair lacking moisture? Is it looking dull, dry, bland, and just overall not very healthy? Then you need to check out Shu Uemura Moisture Velvet! Shampoo & Conditioner from this line quench the strands and create velvety texture that feels incredibly soft to touch. I also adore the brand’s Texture Wave Dry Finishing Spray and Volume Maker Invisible Texturizing Powder for adding a certain je ne sais quoi to complete the overall look. [review coming soon!]
WHERE TO BUY:
- Moisture Velvet Shampoo – $48 USD for 10 oz. Available at ShopSalon.
- Moisture Velvet Conditioner – $58 USD for 8 oz. Available at ShopSalon.
- Volume Maker Invisible Texturizing Powder – $48 USD for 0.07 oz. Available at ShopSalon.
- Texture Wave Dry Finishing Spray – $39 USD for 6.8 oz. Available at Shu Uemura.
ALL HAIR TYPES: Sometimes on a journey to find a great product you discover one that does it all. Frizz? Gone. Moisture? Done. Color-safe? Don’t even worry about that. I purposely left the best for last, because that would make the perfect ending to this gift guide. Kerastase Elixir Ultime line has been on my radar for a while, until I recently had the opportunity to try a few products. Ladies, I am absolutely in love with the shampoo and masque duo! I will post a detailed review soon, but trust me, this is the caviar and truffles of haircare, if you know what I mean.
WHERE TO BUY:
- Masque Elixir Ultime – $65 USD for 6.8 oz. Available at ShopSalon.
- Bain Elixir Ultime – $42 USD for 8.5 oz. Available at ShopSalon.

I need to try the Proganix. The ends of my hair are definitely brittle 🙁
Proganix Quench line is fantastic for brittle hair! I will also recommend Fekkai PrX Reparatives Mending Elixir, it makes the ends look nice and healthy, but only until the next wash.
I love many of these hair products. I am always searching for something to add that va va voom to my dull hair 🙂
Awesome! I’m glad to hear that I’m not alone in love with these wonderful products. I’m with you, my hair always seems to need volume.
You are singing my tunes here! That Shu Uemura is awesome and I am currently so into Redken Frizz, it is really good.
Let’s sing those tunes together, Norah! I always admire people who always seem to have perfect hair, because I know how much time and effort it requires – probably as much as a proper skincare routine.
I love the Proganix line. Great choices.
Thank you Kim, and I’m glad that proganix worked well for you, too! That coconut smell is everything 🙂
OK, I must get the product for oily roots and dry ends. That has me written all over it! I need to find out if it is sulfate free.
Give it a try, that stuff really works wonders!
The argan oil is my favorite
Argan oil is fantastic for skin and hair. It’s easily one of my favorite all-natural beauty solutions, along with coconut oil and shea butter.
Ferakki is so great for fine hair!
I agree, I’ve been a fan of their products for many years.
Looks like you have everyone covered. 🙂
I hope I didn’t forget anyone 🙂
Great guide and it’s perfect that you broke it down into hair types.
Thank you Marcia, I hope it can be helpful to those looking for some haircare suggestions this Holiday season.
Frizzy hair over here! *raises hand*
Yup yup, me, too! It’s either frizzy because it’s too fine naturally, or because it’s winter and hello static 🙂
Dry, colour treated, frizzy, crazy hair. I think I need to dump all of them into a bucket, stir and scoop to use. Maybe then I’d get perfect hair? lol
Haha! Your comments always crack me up, Erika :)) I like that idea though, sometimes my hair needs some major TLC.
Frizzy, wavy and dry scalp… I’d take all of these pls!
Girl, Kerastase is your friend! I swear, those Elixir Ultime shampoo & masque can fix just about any hair problem. They’re both in my shower right now, and my hair couldn’t be happier 🙂
I love hair products – especially masks. The Hask line is amazing – I’ve loved everything I’ve tried, especially their oils and masks. The Shea Moisture products are really good, too!
HASK is fantastic! I tried them this year for the first time and now I’m hooked. Their products feel high end, even though they’re inexpensive.
Hask & Shea Moisture for the win… those are my faves and I love the Shea Moisture leave ins 😀
Fabulous picks, Honey! I remember you raving about Hask on your blog 🙂
So many great products!!
And only one head of hair 😀 Trying all of these took me forever!
I have a question about the Hask. How do you think the mask would affect the scalp?
It contains a fair amount of Argan Oil, so it will definitely moisturize the scalp. If you are trying to avoid any potential residue buildup I would advise applying the mask on the ends up til the middle of your hair only.
