After mindblowingly amazing April box, I decided to stay on board for another one, and of course in typical Glossybox fashion, my May box was a bit of a letdown. But maybe that’s just my own take on it, and you ladies might find it amazing. My box actually shipped very late and I didn’t get it until June, so this isn’t really a belated review, but rather a belated shipment on Glossybox part. Alrighty, let’s take a look at the contents!
HOW IT WORKS: Glossybox is one of the most popular international beauty subscription services, and now it finally came to the US. Each month Glossybox subscribers receive up to six deluxe-size to full size products from crème de la crème of international brands. At $21/month this is one of the more expensive monthly sample boxes, but the value of your box will always be way above. If you would like to use my referral link click here to join Glossybox. Thank you!
Doucce Mineral Matt Lipstick – I heard of Doucce before, but to be honest, I was never really that interested in the brand, although fellow beauty bloggers seem to like their products. The lipstick comes in a uniquely shaped bullet, which looks impressive, but feels like a cheap lightweight plastic with rough edges. There were several different colors sent out, and the one I got was called 907 Cherry Blossom. It looked like a medium pinkish mauve with hints of lilac mini-shimmer, and after checking out swatches online, I decided that I’ll probably pass this on to someone else who just wants to try it for fun. Apparently, the formula is poorly pigmented and quite dry, and even drags on the skin during application. Thanks, but no thanks.
Sebastian Professional Stylbrid 9 – I don’t know what it is about Sebastian hair care, but most of it just doesn’t work for my hair, and it’s not like I am totally clueless on how to use the products. I have many favorites from Alterna, Oribe, Oscar Blandi, amika, Serge Normant, and other higher end brands, but my locks just do not get along with Sebastian formulas. Period. So yet again, I gave this a try, and got my hair all crunchy and stuck together like a stack of hay. I’ll pass on what’s left in the can to my Mom, she actually really likes this brand.
Glamglow Powermud Dualcleanse Treatment – Now, see, if I received a Glossybox filled with Glamglow samples, I would be on cloud 9 from happiness. I tried foil samples of this cleanser before, and it seemed pretty effective – it cleansed and exfoliated my skin at the same time. I’m waiting on a good sale to purchase a couple of their full-sized products, but when the time comes, this will be one of them.
Teez Trend Cosmetics Head Over Heels Nail Lacquer Base Coat – How convenient! I just ran out of my kur Nail Hardener that I use as a base coat. This one has a light lavender tint to it, which helps neutralize yellow tones, so it makes the nails appear slightly whiter and also helps the manicure last longer, while preventing future stains. I liked it!
Clearista Retexturizing Gel – I sort of expected it to be one of those exfoliants that make dead skin roll off your face in clumps, but this one has more of a gommage texture. It’s basically a gentle scrub with medium-sized exfoliating pearls, and you massage it into dry skin for a minute, then simply wash it off and pat dry. Scrubs are known for their instant gratification, and just as I thought Clearista gel made my skin feel instantly smooth after one use. I probably wouldn’t purchase the full size, because a scrub is a scrub, and my drugstore fave from St. Ives works just as well, but I will definitely enjoy using up this little tube.
THE VERDICT: As you could see from the top picture, this box looked a little empty to begin with, but when I took out the lipstick and the hair spray, which I didn’t want to use, I was left with a bottle of base coat, a small [but awesome] Glamglow sample, and a gommage. Would I have paid $21 for these three? Probably not. Oh, who am I kidding, definitely not! But that’s the bane of subscription services, it’s a discovery service, and sometimes you just don’t discover as many nice things as you expected. I’m staying on board for June in hopes of getting something awesome [just got a shipping notice – my box shipped today] 🙂
