Hydroxatone AM/PM Wrinkle Complex SPF 15 Review

Yes, I have reviewed this exact product before, but this time it’s different. This time I gave it to my mom who is actually in the appropriate age group for it, so I can observe the results objectively as well as ask for her opinions.

In a nutshell, Hydroxatone’s best-selling AM/PM Wrinkle Complex is an anti-ageing moisturizer with SPF that contains a mix of hyaluronic acid and peptides to help maintain the skin’s elasticity and improve the appearance of wrinkles.

  • Matrixyl3000: Supports three key building blocks needed for fresh, youthful skin. It helps your skin to promote natural levels of Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid, and Fibronectin.
  • Argireline: Unique anti-aging peptide specifically designed to provide fast and visible results.
  • Hyaluronic Acid: Virtually unmatched in hydrating the skin because of its ability to retain water more effectively than other natural substances, resulting in increased smoothness, softness, and decreased appearance of facial wrinkles.

At the time of this review, my mom has been using Hydroxatone AM/PM Wrinkle Complex for about 10 days, and she already started noticing the first results. She said her skin feels smoother in the morning when she wakes up, which is definitely the effect of peptides and hyaluronic acid at work. I agree with that observation, I think her complexion looks more fresh now, and her skin more supple, thanks to hyaluronic acid’s plumping effect. I like HA and peptides because with those two I personally see the difference almost right away, which can be a good motivator for those of you who like seeing immediate changes.

As good as these first results have been for my mom, I believe this same effect can be achieved without a $70 price tag, but you’d have to layer several inexpensive products and risk clogging up the pores, so, essentially, the price tag is there because of the convenience. Whether to pay extra for that or not is everyone’s personal choice.

Now, to constructive criticism part. AM/PM Complex includes a mix of antioxidants which break down after they make contact with air, and that considerably reduces the shelf life of a product. Since this moisturizer comes in a jar, that means you have about a month or so after initially opening the jar before those extracts and vitamins become ineffective due to the presence of oxygen. Another problem is the jar itself, unless you’re using a special spatula to scoop it out, you’re pretty much adding grime and bacteria to the moisturizer with each consecutive finger dip. I would recommend Hydroxatone to repackage these moisturizers into pump bottles, that way they can stay air and bacteria-free and preserve the effectiveness of the ingredients for longer.

The verdict: The product lived up to its claims to moisturize, soften and nourish mature skin, but the price is a bit high for the amount you get. However, in the end you’ll be paying for the convenience of not using multiple products, which can be useful if your pores are prone to getting clogged. Make sure to use a clean spatula or thoroughly wash your hands before using the moisturizer to keep it free from bacteria and body grease.
