Beauty Box 5 November 2016

I didn’t feel like writing a long intro, so let’s get straight to the point. I received my Beauty Box 5 November 2016 package a couple weeks ago, but couldn’t give it a proper review until now because of the holidays, so here it is! As always, subscribers got 5 products curated around a certain theme, and this month it’s all about getting cozy and comfortable.

HOW IT WORKS:

For $12/month subscribers will receive a box filled with a carefully selected mixture of five travel-sized, deluxe-sized and full-sized cosmetic products from luxury brands, commonly known brands, niche brands, eco-conscious and even vegan brands. Aimed at introducing women to new cosmetic products and educating them on best practices, Beauty Box 5 scours the market to find the best products for your lifestyle. Click here to subscribe.

CONTENTS:

1 // Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask – This mask has been making rounds among subscription boxes for the past couple of years, so I already tried it countless times before. I also own a full-sized jar of this mask, which is currently sitting in the bathroom caddy. Lovely as it is, I am a little bored of it to be quite honest, but if you’re looking for a deep conditioning mask that will revive your dry ends, this one is a good place to start.

2 // Manna Kadar Lip Locked Stain – Liquid lipsticks are all the rage lately, and I may or may not already have too many in my stash 🙂 This is a very pretty nude pink color that is perfect for any season and occasion, and the formula feels very comfortable on the lips. Since it’s technically a highly pigmented lip gloss, it does transfer quite a bit, but at least my lips feel hydrated and not turn into a dry, cracked mess. I will definitely use up this sample!

3 // Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes – I used to buy these on Amazon several years ago, but they weren’t ideal. I think it’s the fragrance in the formula or maybe something else, but they really make my eyes sting, so I switched to Pond’s wipes. But pretty much everyone I know loves these, so maybe your experience will be different from mine.

4 // Peony Cosmetics Shadow Trio – I am obsessed with tiny palettes lately! I already got one from Smashbox, a super cute coin-sized trio; and recently one from Stowaway Cosmetics, too. I don’t think the colors are unique enough for me to use it, but it will make a lovely stocking stuffer for a friend.

5 // BB5 Cut That Crease Angle Brush – I really hate to say it, but after investing in Japanese artisan brushes I’ve turned into a brush snob, so it’s hard for me to enjoy the ones I used before. This synthetic brush is pretty dense, and its size and angle make it perfect for blending eyeshadow in the crease. I plan to give it away, since I prefer softer bristles, but if I had no other choice I think it’s better to apply makeup with a brush than without.

BOTTOM LINE:

You guys know, I am always honest with you, and if I don’t like something, I will be sure to point it out. Let’s just say, the November box was a bit underwhelming. It looks really good in theory: we have a nice travel-sized pack of makeup removing wipes, a full-sized makeup brush, a hair masque, a full-sized eyeshadow palette, and a very pretty lippie, but I can only use two of these products due to personal preference. The two products I can use – the lip stain and the masque – are both really nice, but if I paid my own money for this box, I would be left disappointed. This is not the norm with Beauty Box 5, and I usually enjoy my monthly samples a lot more, so if this is your first time hearing about this box, definitely look up my other reviews to get the whole picture. Fingers crossed for a stellar December box!
