Sample Saturday Review and Giveaway: Bona Clara The 20s Radiance Collection

Looks like the word got out about my Sample Saturdays and a couple weeks ago I got contacted by Francesca, a representative of Bona Clara cosmetics. She offered me the opportunity to review some of their products and of course I agreed.

Bona Clara makes several lines of skincare products called Stages of Beauty. They include the Radiance collection for the 20s range, the Harmony collection for the 30s, the Elegance collection for the 40s and finally the Grace collection for women in their 50s.

In the sample package I received a cute yellow pouch filled with little jars, each marked according to the contents. I got samples of five different products: Scrub, Cleanser, Toner, Treatment Cream and Serum.

20s Scrub
This scrub contains bigger exfoliating flecks so it’s not suitable for people with very sensitive skin, however it was pretty gentle for this type of product. Of course it didn’t clean as well as a Clarisonic, but my skin still felt nice and clean afterwards. On a side note, I like how this scrub looks like a crushed fig fruit 🙂

20s Treatment Cream
This moisturizer feels very rich and heavy at first, but in reality it’s not like that at all. It actually absorbs really well, I only had to wait three minutes or something like that. My face looked nice and matte and the tightness on my cheeks that I sometimes experience after cleansing was totally gone. As an added bonus, it smells like flowers.

20s Cleanser
A little goes a long way with this gentle and highly concentrated cleanser. It foams extremely well into a nice and thick lather and does a great job removing the makeup.

20s Serum
This serum looks like liquid jello so I was a bit concerned that I’d have it form this goopy sticky layer, but soon after I applied it my thirsty skin just gulped it down. I’m not sure if it did anything because my face looked and felt the same it did after I applied the toner, but I suppose it’s formulated to work with the moisturizer so we’ll see how that goes.

20s Toner
The toner made my skin look smoother and did a decent job at closing the pores. It also doesn’t smell like much which is a good thing for me since I dislike most strong fragrances. I’m really not big on toners because a lot of them do literally nothing for my skin, but this one actually had a slight noticeable effect so I’m  pretty satisfied with it.

The verdict: This looks like a really nice routine for people struggling with excess oiliness and dry patches at the same time, like myself. My skin can sometimes be combination/dry and combination/oily, and this line of products worked well for both of those conditions. I really enjoyed the pore tightening effect of the toner and the nice absorbency of the treatment cream, so I’d say these two ended up being my favorite products.
