If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you know that I’m all about that balanced pH. I’ve been advocating for gentle skincare, namely cleansers, ever since I read this post by a fellow blogger Kerry of Skin & Tonics. She talks about the damage that can be done to your skin’s protective acid mantle if you use the wrong skincare, and even a single exposure to a product too acidic or too alkaline can set back your beauty goals for weeks and even months, depending on how much damage was done.

WelleCo The Super Elixir

However, did you know that your entire body can benefit from improving its pH balance? I didn’t until I read about WelleCo The Super Elixir [$135 for 10.6 oz, available here], a premium beauty supplement that was created to promote healthy body acidity levels. The company even carries special body pH testing strips in their online store so you could keep track of the acidity changes while taking The Super Elixir supplement.

WHAT IS THE SUPER ELIXIR?

The WelleCo story began when supermodel Elle Macpherson learned about body acidity and alkalinity from her nutritionist. Despite her healthy lifestyle, Elle was not feeling her best, but she said balancing her body pH changed her outlook on life and beauty supplements. Elle channeled her vision into creating WelleCo’s flagship product The Super Elixir, a high potency Alkalising Greens supplement that was formulated in collaboration with Dr Laubscher, PHD Nutritonal Doctor.

“Each ingredient has been added in calculated ratios to work in perfect balance with one another to help bring the body back into an alkaline state and support all 11 systems.”

Hand-made in Australia, The Super Elixir is filled with carefully sourced premium ingredients of  natural and organic origin. Here are some of the key features:

  • Helps the body maintain good nutrition and pH balance, optimizing the function of all 11 of your body’s systems.
  • Comprised of 45 natural ingredients in scientifically calculated ratios, including super greens, Chinese herbs, digestive enzymes and members of the maitake mushroom family.
  • To ensure the efficacy of the nutrients, The Super Elixir comes in a protective ceramic vessel.
  • Vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, preservative-free.

MY THOUGHTS:

I’ve been taking The Super Elixir for about two weeks now, and even though I didn’t think there was anything wrong with my body’s internal acidity, the pH strips proved otherwise. After two weeks, my number has changed by half a point, which is a considerable improvement. You can read more on how to test your body’s internal acidity here.

The powder looks like matcha, but the flavor reminds me of vintage fruity bubble gum. I found the taste to be surprisingly pleasant, because I honestly expected it to taste like kale or spinach – it’s green after all! The Super Elixir fit right in with my morning smoothies, for a day or two I even took it plain mixed with ice cold water. You need a shaker to properly mix the powder with your liquids, because it has a tendency to clump, but it’s nothing more than what you would have to do with protein powders.

So far I am enjoying the experience. There’s nothing more satisfying than being able to physically track the results with pH testing strips. The Super Elixir does exactly what it promised to deliver, which is to balance the body’s pH levels. I also experienced higher energy levels and overall mood improvement.

Eager to hear how you do with it longer term. I’ve never heard of a supplement to balance the body’s internal pH. Fascinating!

    • March 15, 2016 / 10:17 pm

To be honest, I never knew that was a thing either, which made me even more curious to give it a try.

Them Aussies have the best pH balancing products! I’ve been reorganising my cleansing cabinet as well after my derm told me that harsh skincare had ruined my acid mantle in December. I didn’t know there were supplements for pH balancing!

    • March 15, 2016 / 10:17 pm

You’ve got a great derm! I hope they inspired you to pick up pH testing strips and try to use pH5-5.5 cleansers from now on 🙂 They’re the best for the skin!

Knowing how important pH level is to you this sounds ideal for you. Having more energy would be wonderful.

I am definitely obsessed with pH testing these days, haha! I figured if using cleansers with neutral pH is good for my skin, then my body could also benefit from some pH balancing.

This sounds like a good supplement but it is too spendy for me.

    • March 15, 2016 / 10:10 pm

      It’s definitely a luxury product.

  5. March 15, 2016 / 8:23 pm

    This sounds so intriguing!

    • March 15, 2016 / 10:10 pm

Agreed! I was super excited about it when I read what it does.

I’ve never heard of this before. The supplements I take are super basic vitamins – I’ve never used a powder as a supplement on a regular basis.

    • March 15, 2016 / 10:11 pm

Basic vitamins are important! I take those, too 🙂

  7. March 15, 2016 / 8:36 pm

Super interesting, do you feel better?

    • March 15, 2016 / 10:09 pm

Not sure. I want to say that I am, but it could just be the placebo effect. I do have more energy though, that’s for sure, and can’t fool the pH strips – I’ve seen the actual physical changes firsthand.

I would have never thought of using something like this.

    • March 15, 2016 / 10:09 pm

Why not? Doesn’t it sound interesting?

I’ve never heard of this! But it’s definitely something I would try out!

    • March 16, 2016 / 10:31 am

I’ve seen this in magazines a while back, and then a couple bloggers I follow wrote about it. This is a cool product to try!

    • March 16, 2016 / 10:31 am

It’s a neat product to try!

  10. March 16, 2016 / 1:10 am

You are my go-to expert on all things pH and beauty. I never would have heard of this, but it sounds like it’s already working for you! Have you noticed any changes other than the pH strips?

    • March 16, 2016 / 10:31 am

I seem to have a boost of energy, like there is a spark of clarity in my head that helps me stay focused for a long time. Other than that I want to say that I am feeling better overall, but I also take a other vitamins so I can’t single out that change as something exclusive to The Super Elixir. That energy boost alone is pretty significant for me though.

Right? Looks really luxe, too! I couldn’t resist the packaging 🙂

This is so beautiful in terms on packaging so elegant

    • May 10, 2016 / 7:49 pm

I agree, the packaging is stunning! Never seen a supplement packaged beautifully like that before. They also have protein powder in a white ceramic jar that’s equally lovely.

wow, I’ve never heard of that but it sounds like something I could really use! i imagine I run really alkaline.

    • May 10, 2016 / 7:51 pm

If your body runs alkaline (good for you by the way!) I don’t think you need this supplement, because it’s alkalizing.
