Tea Sparrow August 2020 Unboxing & Review

In Russia where I’m from, drinking tea is as popular as drinking coffee in the US – many people can’t imagine their day without having a nice hot cup of tea in the morning, and I’m no exception. Tea is delicious and there are so many varieties to choose from!

This is actually my second month with Tea Sparrow, but I wasn’t happy with the way the pictures came out so I never reviewed the July box, lol! What a silly reason, right? I think I’ll still share it at a later date just to have a personal record of all the teas I received from them, considering you can buy them from the company’s website. In August we received four teas that pair perfectly with the end of summer when the days are still warm but the nights can get a bit chilly at times.

HOW IT WORKS:

Each month for $20 Tea Sparrow subscribers will receive four bags of hand-picked tea blends that include caffeinated and non-caffeinated varieties – enough to make 35+ cups of tea. The teas are curated to match the “vibe” of the current month. The box ships worldwide from Canada and all the packaging is either recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable. Click here to check it out.

How I brew my tea:

  • For a single cup, I normally use either my Kusmi Tea mug or this Magisso tea cup.
  • To make a full pot of tea, I use a programmable Breville Electric Tea Maker. It’s an investment, but well worth the cost if you live in a household where multiple people drink multiple cups of tea per day.
  • I sometimes also make tea the traditional way using a classic porcelain tea kettle but I hate cleaning those so I only do it when we have people over.

Tea Sparrow August 2020 Unboxing & Review Organic Bergamot Cream Tea Sparrow August 2020 Unboxing & Review Organic Bergamot Cream

Tea Sparrow Organic Bergamot Cream Loose Leaf Tea

Organic Bergamot Cream is our black tea of the month. It has the loveliest aroma that reminds me of Earl Grey – probably because of bergamot – but it also has that creamy warmth from vanilla and calendula petals. Very nice blend, I enjoyed it.

To brew, steep 1 tbsp in 10-12 oz of slightly boiling water for  3 minutes.

Ingredients: Organic Assam black tea, organic calendula petals, organic Italian bergamot extract, natural vanilla flavor.

Tea Sparrow Walnut Green Tea Loose Leaf Tea

Walnut Green Tea was crazy in the best way possible. I mean, it’s probably one of the best teas I’ve ever had! And sure enough, it happens to be the gold prize winner of the 2011 North American Tea Championship. It smells like rum cake and tastes like Bailey’s liqueur and would certainly convert anyone to drinking tea. I never tasted anything like this one, you guys!

To brew, steep 1 heaping teaspoon in 8-10 oz of almost boiling water for 2.5 minutes.

Ingredients: Chinese green tea, sencha, brittle, coconut rasps, candied pineapple, walnuts, natural coconut flavor, almonds.

Tea Sparrow Strawberry Mint Loose Leaf Tea

Strawberry Mint is an herbal blend that smells strongly like strawberry ice tea, and that’s actually the best way to enjoy it in my experience. I tried it both hot and iced, but it tastes so much better iced with a dash of sweetener: honey, stevia, or even maple syrup. Delicious!

To brew, steep 1 tbs in 10-12 oz of boiling water for 5-6 minutes.

Ingredients: Apples, haricot bean peels, stinging nettle leaves, blackberry leaves, black currant leaves, nana mint, strawberry pieces, and strawberry juice.

Tea Sparrow August Nights Loose Leaf Tea

August Nights is another herbal blend, but it’s more of a nighttime treat. It had a pleasant, soothing aroma and a mild flavor, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy more because smells like my linen drawer sachets. I just couldn’t shake that association when I drank it.

To brew, steep 1 tbs in 10-12 oz of boiling water for 5 minutes.

Ingredients: Organic spearmint, organic lavender petals.

BOTTOM LINE:

And that was our August Tea Sparrow box! What do you think? I’m a little bummed that I didn’t love all four teas, but the other three were outstanding. Definitely thinking of getting more of that prize-winning Walnut Green Tea, it was a wonderful discovery and a flavor I won’t soon forget.

All Tea Sparrow monthly teas are available for sale on this page and you can use the code giveme5 for $5 off your order.
