Topics about women’s empowerment used to be pretty regular on this blog before my schedule went all haywire. Today I am happy to jump back into it and talk about feminine hygiene. Sadly, it’s one of those things that many women today are still too uncomfortable to discuss even with their ob-gyn, but times are changing. Just look at how much we achieved in only 80 years time! Throughout a short span of just a few decades [short compared to the rest of humankind’s history], more and more women worldwide started taking control of their bodies, career, and the right to choose their own path in life – the seemingly unattainable goals for our great-great-grandmothers back in the day. More and more of us talk about things that used to be taboo for prior generations openly and unapologetically because striving to be comfortable in our own bodies is not something to be embarrassed about. So let’s talk!
Feminine hygiene hits close to home because I am a very scent-sensitive person, as some of my long-time readers already know. I’m not totally sure how my brain decides which scents will be the ones to trigger the migraines, but a lot of them do and the sheer randomness behind them makes it difficult to figure out why. It always seemed odd to me that I could spritz myself with a cloud of No.5 and feel nothing, then have a migraine all day after smelling someone’s lobster bisque from two tables over. I’m saying this because one of those random headache-inducing scents is the period odor. It is the reason why I now use tampons exclusively because they keep that smell somewhat contained, which makes it a lot easier to maintain freshness. Thank goodness we now have a variety of reasonably-priced feminine hygiene products to choose from that were designed specifically for that delicate area.
Summer’s Eve FreshCycle line has three new offerings to help women refresh at home and on-the-go.
FreshCycle Cleansing Cloths Soft Pack contains 24 flushable cloths that can be used in the same way as any other wet wipes. These come in a soft pack and can be conveniently stored on your bathroom shelf for easy everyday access or tucked in a drawer for use only when necessary. However, if you live in an older building, I recommend skipping the flushable wipes altogether because old plumbing systems were not designed for this and often can’t keep up, even when technically you’re using the product as intended. So in my case, rather than flushing the wipe the drain, I prefer to toss it in the trash instead. These really work wonders to keep any odors at bay and make me feel clean and refreshed.
As an alternative to flushable wipes, Summer’s Eve also offers FreshCycle No-Rinse Cleansing Foam. You dispense the foam directly on toilet paper prior to wiping and essentially create your own flushable wet wipe, which is a pretty safe bet for most plumbing systems in the US. I don’t think it’s common at all for plain ol’ TP to cause clogs around here. Each pump dispenses the perfect amount of foam for one application [one bottle is good for 60+ uses, per the label]. I really like this one, it’s probably my favorite product of the three! I appreciate that Summer’s Eve included a scratch & sniff patch so you could try the scent before buying. If I had to describe it in one word, ‘fresh’ is the only one that comes to mind. It’s not the ocean kind of fresh and not the citrusy fresh, but more like the soapy smell of fresh laundry. It smells like you just put on a clean pair of undies if that makes sense.
Finally, for a girl who is always on the go, FreshCycle Individually Wrapped Cleansing Cloths are a great solution to refresh throughout the day. I have one in my makeup bag and tossed a few in my gym bag so I always have it on hand if I need it when I’m out and about. Each box contains 14 individually wrapped wipes.
Summer’s Eve FreshCycle products are dermatologist and gynecologist approved and keep me feeling fresh every single day of the cycle because they feature gentle pH-balanced formulas that are free of dyes, parabens, and alcohol.
In a world where the words ‘essential’ and ‘must-have’ get tossed around freely, it can be hard to distinguish between legit gems and hyped up basics. Trust me, I roll my eyes just as much as you do when I see headlines like ’10 Must-Have Bags for Summer.’ However, to me, feminine hygiene products are indeed essential, and I hope you can give these a try, too. Here’s the link to the COUPON that will give you $1 off any Summer’s Eve FreshCycle product at Target. Every little bit helps!
