I was trying to think of some fun and witty intro, but to be honest, this box doesn’t even need one – just look at the box itself! That bright packaging with a fun pool print is absolutely adorable, and it’s probably my favorite yet. There’s another reason I loved my August Birchbox – seven products, which means $7 back in store credit! Woot woot!
HOW IT WORKS: At $10/month Birchbox subscribers receive 4-6 luxury samples and full-sized beauty products, tailored for them by a team of curators according to a personalized beauty profile. The value of each box usually ranges from at least $15 and can be as high as $60. Birchbox also has a rewards program: submitting feedback for every product from the box earns you 10 points each; and every 100 points turns into $10 in store credit redeemable for full-sized products and gifts. Designed for stressed and dull skin, Air Repair Complexion Boosting Moisturizer sounds like something I could use right now. With the newest addition to our family, I’m just not getting enough sleep right now, because Luna is still adjusting and needs lots of attention, sometimes in the middle of the night. So far I used it only once and it’s too early to talk about any kind of results, but I like the way it feels on the skin.
I was also looking forward to trying Oribe Shampoo, Conditioner, and Masque for Beautiful Color. I haven’t colored my hair in a while, but I still like using color-safe hair care because it’s designed to be gentler on the strands to prevent the color from losing vibrancy. And I always know that if something’s good enough for colored hair, it’s just as good for any other type. Anyhow, I used up both foil packets and a little bit of the masque, and the shampoo+masque duo is definitely my favorite. I wasn’t too crazy about the conditioner, because it left my hair wanting more moisture, so I’m actually glad that I also had the masque tube with me in the shower.
I own and love the primer from the same line, but dr. brandt pores no more cleanser was too harsh for my liking. It felt too drying, even for combination skin, and I immediately felt like I was desperate to re-hydrate it. I think I’ll keep it, but only to wash my synthetic brushes.
My sample choice this month was RUSK Volumizing Mousse, and if you like using mousse to add volume and texture to fine hair, this is a good one to try. I liked it well enough to potentially purchase more in the future!
Finally, I got to try LAQA & Co. Cheeky Lip Crayon in Humble Brag, which is described as blush pink. It looks absolutely awful on the lips – dry, patchy, and slides all over, but on my cheeks it transformed into the loveliest flush of color that stayed on for many hours. Definitely use these as blushes!
THE VERDICT: I was pretty happy about getting $7 back in points, so I ended up overlooking a few flaws. For example, I wasn’t a huge fan of the cleanser, or that Oribe conditioner, but I loved the hair mousse and LAQA crayon used as a blush.

I totally feel the same way about the Cheeky Lip. I got the shade Cray Cray and found it to be way to dry as a lipstick, but absolutely perfect as a blush! The full sizes have really beautiful gold packaging, too, although it doesn’t look like they’re for sale in the Birchbox shop yet.
Good to know I’m not the only one feeling this way. The coverage on the lips is so patchy and dry, isn’t it? I wonder if I should pick these up, because I love good blushes. I already have so many though… Decisions decisions…
