Recent Tosses

Various products I recently tossed in the bin.

I know we talk a lot about empties and makeup we hit pan on, but sometimes products need to be tossed while they are still somewhat full. With empties I usually assume that the person loved the product enough to use it up/pan it, but that’s not always the case with items that hit the bin before they are finished. Today I wanted to quickly share a few of my recent tosses and the reasoning behind my decision to get rid of them.

Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen SPF40 ($32) – This sunscreen was actually one of my favorites and I wore it faithfully early spring to early summer. I took a break for about a month and when I came back to it I noticed that the formula changed color. It used to be almost clear, and now it had a yellow hue to it. Sunscreen does have an expiration date and if it changes texture, color, or starts smelling funky I always toss it, as was the case with this one.

Botanic Farm Waterfull Serum BB Cushion SPF50+ PA+++ (??) – Cushion foundations tend to dry out way before they are set to expire. This one was ultra full coverage, to the point of making my face smooth and even toned like a porcelain doll. It’s certainly nice for people who are looking for this coverage level, but it was too much for me so I rarely used it.

100% Pure BB Cream SPF15 ($41) I like this BB cream but I don’t love it. The all-natural formula has sheer coverage and gives the skin luminous, radiant finish; it also smells like lavender. Unfortunately, it makes my skin look a bit too dewy, so I almost never used it. I just recently found this tube in my stash and decided to toss it because it’s been too long and I was afraid that the product might have spoiled.

Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes Volume 2 ($32) – I’ve been using this mascara for the past 3 months and I love how big and fluffy it made my lashes look! It did smudge on my lower lashes during the summer in hot and humid weather, but I never had that issue when using it on my top lashes alone. Fantastic mascara, definitely one of my favorite makeup releases this year!

Various products I recently tossed in the bin.

Jouer Lip Sheer in Lanai ($15) – I found this sheer lippie during the most recent makeup purge, and I am positive that it went bad. It smells kind of musty and the lipstick itself crumbled horribly when I tried to swatch it to see what the color looked like. It was actually a nice product and I used up about half of it, which is more than most of the lipsticks in my stash.

Vert Concealer Pencil in Lumiere ($21) – I know I never talked about this brand before, but that’s because I didn’t have a good experience with their products. I thought this concealer was dry, chalky, and creased badly under my eyes. Even though the formula is clean and non-toxic, the product itself didn’t live up to my expectations.

NU Evolution Lipstick in Allure ($30) – I love NU Evolution lipsticks, they perform just as well as traditional ones from department store brands, but the formula is cleaner and more natural. This is a great alternative for people who choose to avoid certain ingredients in cosmetics. The downside of that is the shelf life: natural products tend to have a tighter expiration window. I am pretty sure this one went bad after a year because it smells a bit rancid.

Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Sucre ($24) – This chubby lip pencil was the first product from Bite Beauty that I tried, and I used it a lot. At one point it got lost in the lipstick drawer though, so I totally forgot it existed. I really don’t think it’s safe to use now, but I might actually repurchase it since it’s still available for sale at Sephora.
