If you are not already a member of BzzAgent you really should join – membership is absolutely free and you get to try new products before anyone else! I’ve been with them for several years now, and got to test some really cool things, ranging from skincare, haircare and makeup to household cleaning products, and even a printer! This time around I was selected to participate in a bzzcampaign [that’s what they’re called] to try out new Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Liquid Makeup foundation. I selected the shade Classic Ivory, because it seemed like the closest match for my fair complexion.

Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Liquid Makeup Classic Ivory

Neutrogena claims their new Nourishing Long Wear Liquid Makeup provides “smooth, even, long-lasting coverage as it works to actually improve skin’s natural tone. The 12 hour long wear makeup instantly erases the look of skin imperfections as it provides natural-looking coverage. It has a Tone Correcting Complexโ€”an exclusive blend of nourishing antioxidants, soy, Vitamins A, C, E, and light diffusing powdersโ€”and is clinically proven to provide skin tone and texture improvements in 4 short weeks.” So, to sum it up, it’s supposed to conceal the imperfections, improve your skin tone over time, protect from the sun and last 12hrs. Sounds promising, doesn’t it?

Packaging was the first thing that you experience when holding this product, and I have to admit, I really wish the bottle came with a pump, because sometimes it felt like I’m trying to slap a hard bottle of ketchup to get the product out, which kinda hurt my hand a little bit. In the end I just scooped it out with a clean Q-tip, but there has to be a better method to this. The formula sets to a nice powdery finish and makes the skin look glowy while still being matte.

The consistency is what I would call medium [not too runny, not too thick]. I had no problems applying and blending it out with a dampened beautyblender [a teardrop-shaped makeup sponge]. Using this method of application, the first coat provided light coverage, which could be easily built up to medium with another light layer. It doesn’t completely conceal imperfections, instead making them less noticeable, while evening the overall appearance of the skin, so I don’t recommend this foundation for people who prefer fuller coverage.

Despite it’s “heavy” look, this foundation feels surprisingly lightweight on the skin, providing hours of comfortable wear. Speaking of wear, it unfortunately did not live up to its long-lasting claims. I wore it with and without primer, as well as with/without finishing powder, and it never lasted as long as it was supposed to. When used alone, it faded almost completely after 5 hours, and with primer+setting powder it still lasted about 7, which is still nowhere close to the promised 12 hours.

The formula also includes SPF20 [titanium dioxide, aka mineral/physical sunscreen] and a blend of vitamins to help improve the skin tone overtime. Personally, I didn’t think my skin tone has improved at all, probably because all those vitamins are at the very bottom of the ingredient list, but Neutrogena still gets A for effort.

I hope you don’t mind that I reused this picture from another post, but I’m wearing this foundation here after all ๐Ÿ™‚

THE VERDICT
Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Liquid Makeup feels very lightweight on the skin and provides beautiful natural finish, however it unfortunately didn’t last even remotely close to 12 hours; also the packaging design made it quite hard to get any product out of the bottle. Neutrogena promised brightening skincare properties, but personally I don’t think it diminished my hyperpigmentation, not even a little.

Your skin looks great before and after!

    • March 12, 2014 / 7:49 pm

Thank you! I wish the effect was more long-lasting, but unfortunately this foundation just melts off the face ๐Ÿ™

  2. March 11, 2014 / 11:20 am

Great coverage! Bummer its not long lasting

    • March 12, 2014 / 7:49 pm

Indeed, the coverage was just right – not too light, not too heavy – but the staying power is terrible. Neutrogena should work on that!

  3. March 11, 2014 / 11:23 am

All of the reviews I have heard and read on this foundation have been very meh. Neutragena dropped the ball on this one.

    • March 12, 2014 / 7:50 pm

Yep, it’s such a cool concept, but poorly executed.

  4. March 11, 2014 / 12:47 pm

I love Neutrogena – if this came with a pump I’d totally try it.

    • March 12, 2014 / 7:50 pm

Indeed, the lack of pump makes this foundation really hard to use.

  5. March 11, 2014 / 1:22 pm

    Yuck. Definitely one to skip.

    • March 12, 2014 / 7:51 pm

Indeed. It may look great right after the application, but nobody wants their foundation disappearing in just a few hours.

  6. March 11, 2014 / 4:00 pm

Not a fan for me but it does look nice on you!

    • March 12, 2014 / 7:52 pm

Thank you Noelle, I wasn’t a fan of the formula, but it did look nice, because it happened to work well with my skin tone, even if it wasn’t a total match.

  7. March 11, 2014 / 6:00 pm

If only more drugstore foundations came with pumps!

  8. March 11, 2014 / 6:07 pm

I’m dying to try this! Looks like it has great coverage!

    • March 12, 2014 / 7:53 pm

It really does, but unfortunately it just won’t stay on the skin for longer than a few hours. Maybe your results will be better than mine ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. March 11, 2014 / 6:26 pm

Thank you for the review and tip on BizzAgent!

    • March 12, 2014 / 7:54 pm

No problem, I hope you are selected for lots of awesome campaigns ๐Ÿ™‚

    • March 12, 2014 / 7:54 pm

If you somehow manage to make this foundation stay in place, then you will certainly love it ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. March 11, 2014 / 7:48 pm

It did even out your tones. You are gorgeous, darling!!!

    • March 11, 2014 / 7:53 pm

I guess I should have been more clear in what I meant. Neutrogena claims this product will act like skincare and actually even out the skin tone (not just when wearing the foundation). I didn’t think it was very effective at that, because after several weeks I see no change at all ๐Ÿ™

  11. March 11, 2014 / 11:08 pm

I haven’t gotten any campaigns from Bzz Agent!!! What a bummer on this foundation. Neutrogena Healthy Skin is my HG drugstore foundation, but it has the same packaging problem with no pump.

    • March 12, 2014 / 7:55 pm

Arg, I wonder how they select people, because I keep getting them non-stop (I’m in 5 right now), I hope you get selected for something soon.

  12. March 12, 2014 / 12:39 am

I don’t think I have ever tried any foundy from Neutrogena. Great review!!!xo

  13. March 13, 2014 / 12:18 am

I love when a review covers all the things that matter to me, like ease of use, and living up to promises! For what it’s worth, I actually think your skin looks better in the before pix.

    • March 14, 2014 / 9:06 pm

Thank you Nidia! This foundation doesn’t seem to look that great because it has more orange undertones than mine.

    • March 14, 2014 / 9:07 pm

Indeed. Really, all companies should offer pumps, even if we have to buy them separately.
