You know, if I could only buy one Memebox every month, I would buy the Global editions… if two was my limit, I would add in Mask boxes, because I always start using most of those products right away, and actually manage to finish many of them. The fifth edition – My Mask Box – didn’t disappoint! The box was heavy and really stuffed to the top with all sorts of beauty treatments to satisfy a multitude of skin needs.
HOW IT WORKS
Memebox Global is not a typical subscription service. They periodically curate boxes filled with assorted beauty products popular among Koreans, and those Limited Edition bundles are sold on first come first serve basis. Prices vary depending on the type of the box. Memebox ships internationally, so make sure to check on their website and see if they ship in your country – chances are they do. All themed boxes tend to sell out fast, so by the time you read this review this particular box might not be available for sale anymore.

Pro You Pore Control Facial Mask – Considering the description from the product card, this looks to me like a typical clay mask, but after looking at the ingredients on the tube [they’re in English, yay!], I was actually pretty impressed. The formula looks pretty “clean” and packed with over 20 different plant extracts, including chamomile, green tea, and figs.
My only beef with this mask is the fact that there is no mention of it on the company’s official website, which makes me think it might have been discontinued. I guess, as long as it’s not expired it’s okay, but I still would like to try more recent products. I was able to find it on Gmarket, and of course Memebox inflated retail value again, but it’s still not cheap.
insobeau Beauty Secret Step Up Bust Mask – If I didn’t already receive a bust mask in my OMG box, I would be pretty surprised to see this one, but now that I know they exist, I was like “uh okay, nice, I guess I’ll try that tonight”.
Inside the package there are two large round fortune cookie shaped stickers that should be worn on the skin for 8 hours, so it’s best to wear them overnight. I used mine during the day, and made it to maybe 7 hours, but even then my skin felt amazing! It looked really smooth and felt hydrated, and best of all, that effect lasted several days even after showering.
Pure Smile Placenta Mask Sheet 5 Set – This resealable package contains five pre-soaked sheet masks, and the only reason I didn’t open it yet is because I want to make sure I can use them up before the liquid inside dries out. Since I have several other masks I wanted to try, I will save this one for last.
There were six variations of these masks sent out – Placenta, Sake, Citron, Pearl, Honey, and Mayu. While the first five are pretty self-explanatory, mayu, or horse oil, is an unknown ingredient for most people. Mayu is very similar to human sebum, making it highly permeable, so it penetrates the skin without leaving greasy film on top.
Tosowoong Help Me Neck Patch – I kind of thought this would be one of those crazy chokers, but it’s actually a normal-looking cellulose mask that attaches to the skin. According to the product card, this mask works to instantly lift the skin and replenish moisture for a more youthful-looking neck.
I have to admit, I didn’t see any difference after using it. I guess since I’m 30, and my skin is not as soft and smooth as it was 10 years ago, I expected to see at least some effect, but there was none. Oh well, I guess that means I won’t be splurging on these anytime soon 🙂
Purederm Wrinkle Reducer Gel Patches – These patches are made with seemingly the same material as insobeau Bust Mask, it’s smooth on one side and sticky on the other. Product card says these patches are effective at reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and that’s exactly what they seem to do.
They work by plumping the skin, so the effect is temporary and lasts several hours at most. On the box it says that they can even be used overnight, but I tried it last night and they kept bothering me, because the patches are pretty thick. Still, I think it’s a pretty decent mask for special occasions when you need to look your best. The sticky gel formula didn’t irritate my skin, which is always a good thing.
Elizavecca Green Piggy Collagen Jella Pack – I tried Elizavecca carbonated mud mask and it was really fun! Now that I have this collagen pack, the only thing stopping me from opening it right away is the fact that I already have an open jar of collagen sleeping mask on my nightstand that I use daily, and at least visually it seems like it might be very similar to this one. One thing I adore about collagen packs is that they look and smell like jello pudding. The one I’m using right now smells so tempting, I almost want to eat it 🙂
Apparently Elizavecca brand is so popular in Asia, their products are very often faked [kind of like Tony Moly and Etude House]. Lucky for us, Memebox customers get to try the real thing. P.S.: Memebox inflated the price for this one big time! Refer to the numbers below for the actual product cost.
Milky Dress Aqua Sleeping Pack – Recommended mainly for dry or dehydrated skin, this sleeping pack is probably not the best choice for me personally, so without even opening it, I think I will put it away into my gift stash.
This mask is supposed to be applied in the PM as a final step of your skincare routine, just like any other sleeping pack, and has to be thoroughly washed off in the morning. Before I started using these packs, it seemed like a weird concept to wear a mask to bed; after all, won’t they stain the pillowcase and sheets? As it turns out, these masks are basically thick moisturizers that usually create a slightly sticky layer on the surface of the skin, so the staining issue is not as bad as it seems; certainly no worse than going to bed drenched in body butter.
THE VERDICT
I paid only $4.49 for My Mask Box because I bought it in a bundle, and also used a ton of points, discount code and someone else’s affiliate link to get extra $5 off, so this was a really good deal. My favorite treatment in this box so far is actually the bust mask, because I was very impressed with the results I got, but I also look forward to eventually trying Elizavecca collagen pack and Pure Smile sheets.
