Alright, I think it’s time to stop mulling it over and finally share this review. I have this problem where if I am really really loving a product, I tend to procrastinate reviewing it, because I keep thinking of more good things to say. At this point the fact that I am head over heels in love with new MAC Otherearthly Mineralize Skinfinish [$32, available here] is not even a spoiler or a secret. I used it in this year’s Mother’s Day Gift Guide, featured it countless times on Instagram and Snapchat, and in my April favorites. So there you have it, this is my official review, or rather reasons why I think it’s an amazing product and why you need it in your life, like, yesterday.
I’m not a MAC fanatic, and I don’t have a huge collection of MAC products in my stash. I think the brand has lost their momentum and currently survives solely on the hype from their never-ending Limited Edition collections. However, I developed a pretty good eye for exceptional releases. Even though nothing else stood out, I knew I just had to have this beautiful skinfinish when Future MAC Collection hit the shelves a few weeks ago.
I like the formula of MAC skinfinishes, but they are often not unique enough to buy in several colors. Otherearthly is one of those rare unicorns that is unlike anything else in the lineup. The pan contains three shades that can be used individually or blended together to create custom colors. Depending on how you mix them, the result can be bronzed, pink, or peachy highlighter. My complexion is pretty fair so I sometimes use the pink “vein” as a shimmery blush, and it actually shows up on my skin. The silver vein is so shimmery that it almost crosses the glitter territory, but despite my fears it didn’t turn my skin into a disco ball. Instead, it imparts a flattering beautiful shimmery glow, which doesn’t emphasize the pores.
The texture is silky smooth and the powder looks finely milled, so I had no issues using brushes with ultra-soft [squirrel], medium [goat], and synthetic bristles. All of them picked up a good amount of product, and denser brushes perhaps picked up too much at a time, which is not an issue as I normally try to do my makeup light handed. I really don’t know what else to say other than this is one of my favorite MAC purchases ever and I would even buy a backup. The only thing stopping me from doing that is the size of the pan: my backup will go bad before I even hit pan on my current one.
Can you see the highlight? Oh, but it’s there! The color really blended with my blush, creating a seamless transition and giving the skin healthy glow.
BOTTOM LINE:
If you’ve been thinking about buying MAC Otherearthly Mineralize Skinfinish and can’t decide if you need it or not, I say go for it. It’s a beautiful highlighter that can also double up as a blush on fair complexions, and the formula is top notch. It’s soft, buttery smooth, long-wearing, and will play well with all of your brushes.
You can purchase MAC Otherearthly Mineralize Skinfinish at Nordstrom, Macy’s, MAC, and MAC retail locations.

Right? MAC is still capable of coming up with great releases.
This is so pretty! It’s lurking on my Nordies wish list, waiting for me to make up my damned mind.
if you end up getting it I would love to hear what you think 🙂
That’s stunning. I have so many older Skinfinishes that I never look at them anymore but this one looks unique.
This one is unique enough that I can see myself using it for a long time without getting bored. It’s a stunner!
I have never had good luck with the Skinfinishes–they are all too glittery but I’ll take your advice on this one,it looks beautiful!
I love this skinfinish, it looks very natural and not too glittery at all.
This is such a pretty highlight. I’d totally use these as eyeshadows too. 🙂
I am using these as eyeshadows as we speak, haha!
Isn’t that fabulous? Definitely adding it to my list.
It’s totally wishlist-worthy 🙂
For me, I feel like the skin finish might be a tad too light but the colors really do look beautiful on you!
Thank you Mai!
I think I need this! You have a beautiful, natural glow!
