Tatcha Kyoto Red Silk Lipstick

If you follow Tatcha on social media or subscribe to their newsletter, you might have heard that they recently brought back Kyoto Red Silk Lipstick [$55, available here], a limited edition release that sold out fairly quickly last time. This unique vermillion color is part of a signature look for the Japanese geisha, and Tatcha remastered this universally flattering hue for the modern woman.

Kyoto Red was an impulse purchase when it first came out, because I was searching for my perfect red at the time. Thanks to the helpful pictures on tatcha.com showcasing this shade being worn by women of different complexions, I was convinced that it might be a universally flattering color, so I had no doubt in my mind that I will love it. From the exquisite weighty black bullet, adorned with gold accents, to the diamond shape of the lipstick tip, Kyoto Red is everything I hoped it would be and then some. I’ve had it in my possession for a year, and every time I used it I got lots of compliments from both men and women.

So, what makes this lipstick so special, you might ask? It’s true, there are plenty of alternatives, and it’s definitely more expensive than many luxury brands. However, Tatcha managed to make Kyoto Red Silk Lipstick into something more than a little crayon for big girls. Holding this weighty bullet in my hand makes it seem more like a treasure, and of course, the formula is absolutely top notch. Just one quick swipe deposits the perfect amount of pigment for rich, opaque coverage with the most flattering semi-matte finish. In addition to that, this lipstick is hydrating, long-lasting, doesn’t feather, and feels totally weightless.

Bottom line, this is yet another outstanding release from Tatcha and I’m glad they made this lipstick available again, so more people can experience this beauty. I missed out on their second lipstick – Sunrise: A Plum Blossom – so I’m hoping they will bring it back at some point as well. Look it up, the swatches are gorgeous!
