Contouring for pale skin: fact or fiction? Honestly, I find it incredibly hard to find products that I don’t have to blend out to nothingness, scraping away the layers of foundation, concealer, primer, and skincare, just so they don’t look like dirt on my skin. True story. When cosmetic companies come up with contouring kits for “Fair” skin, more often than not the shades are still too dark. Does anybody else have this problem, or is it just me?
So when I heard that L’Oreal will be adding contouring duos to their Infallible range, I kind of didn’t even care. Then I got two to try and changed my mind 180 degrees, and here’s why.
ABOUT:
L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Contour Palette [$12.99, available here] is a duo-color palette with two colors pressed side by side in a single pan. One of the colors is meant to be used as a contour and another one as a highlighter. Each palette also comes with a handy brush that features a wave cut, perfect for creating chiseled cheekbones in a single stroke.
“Beautifully coordinated highlighting and contouring shades create a professionally-defined look. Buildable powders blend effortlessly into the skin for a flawless, fade-proof finish.”
At this time L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Contour Palette comes in three shades:
- Light
- Medium
- Deep
I received Light and Medium kits to try, but unfortunately the Light palette got completely shattered during transport. I was pretty bummed about that because the colors looked like they would work well for me. To my surprise, the Medium kit worked just fine even with my porcelain complexion, but I am still planning to purchase the Light duo because those colors are more “me”.
PRESENTATION:
Honestly, I am not a huge fan of single pan multicolor palettes in general. Usually it creates a lot of dust that settles over other colors, reducing the color purity. Hourglass eye shadow palettes are the prime example of that, which was one of the reasons they received so many negative reviews from the public.
What’s interesting about these kits is that the brush is actually functional, and something I will definitely use with this one and other contouring products. Having two pointed bristle edges, it “hugs” the cheekbone, creating defined contour in literally one stroke. I didn’t even need to use another brush to blend out the colors, this little guy did it all.
HOW TO USE:
Swipe the provided brush across both colors a few times, so each “tip” of the brush picks up enough pigment. Apply it along your cheekbones using long back and forth strokes and blend out if necessary.
MY THOUGHTS:
I was impressed with these more than I thought I would be. I mean, I honestly did not have high expectations at all considering my experience with most other contouring kits. The powders are quite stiff in the pan, but the dense bristles on the brush pick up a good amount of pigment. Since I have this bad habit of touching my face throughout the day [I know I probably shouldn’t] the contour started fading after maybe 4 hours of wear. I don’t think I can go through a day without giving in to this subconscious impulse so I can’t really give you a more realistic wear time, sorry ladies! But it really does look great on the skin, and not overly sharp either. If you like a naturally contoured look without the sharp edges, give these palettes a try. And if you are a fellow porcelain doll, don’t be scared of the medium shade – it actually worked out pretty well for my NC15 skin tone.
I want to note than when I tried using my full-sized brushes they barely picked up any pigment from the pans, so definitely use the one included in the kit – it seems to work the best.

Looks like L’Oreal has oodles of great new stuff for spring/summer! Pretty contour palette!
They sure do!
L’Oreal is definitely one of the best drugstore brands.
I think so too 🙂
I love that everyone is coming out with a contour palette! I’ll be collecting them all I’m sure, lol.
Haha, yass! I’m still looking for that one HG that I will stick to, but so far I am just moving from palette to palette because they all seem so nice.
The brush is quite impressive to be included with this palette. I like seeing all the new L’Oreal products this season.
I agree, the brush is nice and actually functional. L’Oreal did a great job!
That’s pretty cool that you even liked the brush! It looks really natural on you. I’ve almost given up on contouring and just stuck with highlighting – so much easier. lol!
Thank you Nidia! And you should definitely give these a try, it’s honestly super easy to contour with that brush.
The light would make a great soft highlight on my cheeks… I am bummed it came shattered for you… that happens often for me. I think I’ll be checking these out. 🙂
Yay, I hope you like these! And the brush these come with is really great.
Use a little alcohol and press down the product and it’ll be as good as new 😊
Might check this one out, but I usually need a darker contour in order to make a slight difference on my skin tone
Thanks for the advice, Lena! Unfortunately, these palettes have two colors baked together, so at best this would create a mix of two colors, instead of the light and dark contouring shades 🙁
I can’t believe that there’s a brush in a kit that works better than your won brush! I love finding drug store brands that do a good job.
Right? I love that little brush and use it with my other products now, too.
This looks great on you! Too bad the light kit was broken.
Yeah that was a bummer 🙁
Thank you Lona! I would have loved to show you the Light duo, because I’m sure it works really well, but Medium looks good on fair complexions, too.
