L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss Review, Swatches

Drugstore brands are on a roll lately! I remember just a few years ago I would go grocery shopping and walk past by the beauty aisle without even glancing at the displays. Let’s be honest, for the most part the offerings were so-so. These days I start my shopping by checking out what’s new and glancing at clearance racks in case any of my favorites pop up there.

Eye shadows and lip glosses were always my least favorite among the drugstore offerings – the first ones lacked pigmentation and usually had terrible fallout, and the latter would be sticky, gooey, and disappear from the lips within minutes. But times have changed, and today I want to show you some of the new additions to L’Oreal lippie range. Trust me, you don’t want to miss these!

ABOUT:

“L’Oreal introduces their first matte gloss that provides high-impact, velvet matte color without the dry-out.”

Brand new for 2016, L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss [$9.99 for 0.21 oz, available here] comes in ten gorgeous shades:

  • 300 Blushing Ambition
  • 302 Fuchsia Amnesia
  • 304 Rebel Rose
  • 306 Aphrodite Kiss
  • 308 Shanghai Scarlet
  • 310 Forbidden Kiss
  • 312 Rouge Envy
  • 314 Nude Allude
  • 316 Statement Nude
  • 318 Bare Attraction

I received five to try, so the colors I will highlight in this particular blog post are Fuchsia Amnesia, Rebel Rose, Shanghai Scarlet, Forbidden Kiss, and Rouge Envy.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss Review, Swatches Fuchsia Amnesia

302 Fuchsia Amnesia is a hot purplish pink with cool undertone. The color is very bright, almost neon in person, and it’s totally outside of my comfort zone. To be honest, I don’t think it looks good on me, and if I pick an out-of-the-box shade to wear I usually go for orange or lilac. Nonetheless, I think on the right person this shade will look utterly gorgeous!

304 Rebel Rose is a warm-toned rosy medium pink that leans a little raspberry. Like Fuchsia Amnesia above, it has a slight purple tint peeking through that makes the teeth appear whiter.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss Review, Swatches Shanghai Scarlet

308 Shanghai Scarlet is a bright warm-toned slightly orangey red, think flag of China kind of red. This is my favorite shade in the collection!

L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss Review, Swatches Forbidden Kiss

310 Forbidden Kiss is a plummy purple, and while this color doesn’t look too great on me, I absolutely loved it on pretty much everyone else that I’ve seen. I think it will be a great one to wear during fall and winter months.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss Review, Swatches Rouge Envy

312 Rouge Envy reminds me of a fresh slice of pink beets, it has equal parts purple and pink with a hint of red, making it a very versatile shade to wear for any occasion. It’s my second favorite of the bunch!

ARE THEY REALLY MATTE?

Don’t be fooled by the name, because the finish on the lips is far from matte. Instead, they look buttery with a very slight sheen. Honestly, if I was strictly looking for a matte finish I’d be disappointed, but I am fairly open-minded when it comes to lipsticks. L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss is luxuriously creamy, and deposits a rich layer of pigment to the lips with one quick swipe of a wand. Speaking of the wand: it features an interesting teardrop shape with a hollow center, and a fellow blogger Mai came to a conclusion that this opening helps drag away excess product from the lips to help prevent overdrawn edges. How clever!

WEAR TIME:

On my lips L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Glosses lasted about 4 hours before I started noticing the first signs of fading. The pigment wears off evenly, so my lips never looked splotchy at the end of the day even if I forgot to re-apply. All five shades slightly stain the skin, so your pout still has some color even after the lippie is gone.

MY THOUGHTS:

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss is similar to another product I love – YSL Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain, with the same gorgeous pigmentation and featherweight feel on the lips. Plus, the pleasant rosy-fruity fragrance reminds me of Lancome lipsticks and glosses, although I know that some people prefer their beauty products to be unscented. Unlike true matte liquid lipsticks these don’t feel drying, and you can reapply the color as often as necessary without the fear of it flaking off [if you tried to reapply true matte liquid lipsticks, you know that’s a very common problem].

After trying all five shades sent to me, I was reminded once again that I love a good red lip. Shanghai Scarlet kind of became my go-to informal red after the very first time I wore it. It’s not overly dressy and the hue is bright enough to make it a fun everyday statement to any neutral look.

Long story short, if you like liquid lipsticks with a lightly glossy finish and are not put off by the strong fragrance, you will be pleasantly surprised with these. They are comfortable to wear, long-lasting, and are just drop dead gorgeous on the lips.

You can purchase L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss at Ulta, Target, and local drugstores.
