L’Oreal Infallible Paints Metallics Eye Shadow Review

Every time I share a blog post about some of my pricier favorites, I get a comment or two from people who wish my recommendations were a little more affordable. I believe that every person deserves to feel beautiful, no matter their budget, so I made plans to feature affordable products a lot more often on this blog, or at the very least give them an honest review.

I am certainly not above using drugstore brands. They’ve come a long way in the recent years, especially the giants like L’Oreal, Maybelline, Neutrogena, etc… Nowadays it’s much easier to find superb products at your local mass retailer or grocery store that will perform beautifully and don’t cost a month’s worth of rent.

L’Oreal Infallible Paints Metallics Eye Shadow (swatches)

Today I wanted to talk about L’Oreal Infallible Paints Metallics Eye Shadow ($8.99) singles that officially hit the shelves last year in July. Metallic makeup is still very much ‘in’ this year, and it’s always fun to try trends on a budget. I had these for a while now and actually meant to review them a long time ago, but never had the time or there were other projects going on at the time.

The singles are available in five shimmering chrome shades:

  • 400 Rose Chrome
  • 402 Brass Knuckles
  • 404 Caged
  • 406 Violet Luster
  • 408 Aluminum Foil

You will LOVE these if:

  • You love metallics!
  • You like to experiment with your makeup.
  • You want to try the trendy foil makeup look, but don’t want to spend too much.
  • You are on a budget.
  • You like buying single pans vs palettes.

You will HATE these if:

  • You only wear eyeshadows with matte and satin finish.
  • You only buy from cruelty-free companies.
  • You prefer 100% natural products.
  • You don’t use makeup primer.
  • You are sensitive to any of the ingredients.

I chose the colors I thought would suit my complexion the best: 400 Rose Chrome, 402 Brass Knuckles, and 404 Caged. They looked so good sitting there side by side that I really wanted to use all three in some way! Well, I finally did, as you can see below. 😉 Here’s the secret to this makeup ‘look’: I used the leftover powder on my fingers from the arm swatch and swiped all three colors over the lid. Then I took a blending brush and blended out the edges along the crease and the bottom lash line. Done!

Oh my lids these come across shimmery more than anything, but if you want a true metallic foil finish, you’ll need to use a primer, an eyeshadow base, or apply them wet. I have slightly crepey lids [only noticeable with foil finish] so this is not a look that will suit me, but if metals are your thing, definitely make sure to prime well beforehand for best results.

When looking for product info online, I noticed a few negative comments about these metallics. Some people say the color payoff is bad, they crease, and don’t last. I am honestly shocked, and suspect there might be a bad batch circulating in the stores, because my singles are superb. The pigmentation, the longevity, the way they look and feel on the skin – everything is top notch and comparable to department store quality.

TL;DR: L’Oreal Infallible Paints Metallics Eye Shadows are soft, pigmented, and long-lasting, and they would make a great addition to your makeup collection if you are into metallics or want to try the it look for less.
