I became acquainted with LAQA & Co when the brand was first included in birchboxes, but no matter how many times I crossed my fingers and toes, I was never lucky enough to get my hands on a sample. Finally, I had the opportunity to try some of their best-selling products – classic nail polish in NewFangled and nail polish pen in Tweedledee, – and they didn’t disappoint!

BRAND OVERVIEW

“LAQA & Co. is a New York based cosmetic brand thatโ€™s about more than just beauty. They began with the Nail Polish Pen – high gloss nail lacquer in a pen, so you can easily do your nails anywhere in just a few clicks. And followed up with the Fat Lip Pencil, a glossy lip pencil in a handy jumbo pencil – that needs no sharpener. LAQA & Co covers their packaging in unique artwork by young artists looking to get their work seen by lots and lots of people. And the Artists get a cut of the profit from every product purchased. So spread the word!”

NewFangled looked baby blue creme in the bottle, but once I painted my nails and let the color set, it turned out slightly darker, almost a forget-me-not blue. The wand and the handle are both long and slim, making it really easy to apply the polish. Slightly runny formula goes on evenly and almost without streaks. Don’t let the thin consistency fool you, because the color is packed with pigment: two thin coats were more than enough for complete opacity. The artwork for the box was created by Grรฉgoire Guillemin [NSFW].

Tweedledee is a darling pastel coral peach creme, absolutely perfect for Spring! Have any of you tried using a nail polish pen before? I have not, and this was a very new experience, certainly something I first have to get used to, because the application is just so different. Initially I had to click about 10 times for the polish to show up, but after that I used 2-3 clicks per finger per coat. In the swatches above I’m wearing three coats of nail polish and a top coat. The formula is a bit thick and a little streaky, or maybe it was just me not being used to this type of product. I think the idea behind this polish pen is genius, because it’s really easy to apply on the go and there’s no mess. I personally still prefer the traditional bottles, but this pen would be nice to fix any nail chipping right on the spot. The artwork for the box was created by Paul Price.

LAQA & Co. is all about making their products convenient, and what can be more convenient than Polish Remover Pads? These little thin rounds are soaked in oily polish remover to quickly and effectively remove all traces of even the most stubborn formulas, and the size is compact enough to carry around in your purse. I used one pad per hand, but probably could have easily used one for both to get the same results.

Never heard of this brand before, but these two nail polish shades look very very pretty!

Hi Leelo — LAQA & Co. is a new brand so they aren’t very well-known yet, but they are starting to get popular. I love that they donate a portion of their proceeds to young artists, and their products look so young and hip ๐Ÿ™‚

I have reviewed the nail polish pen before and the polish and lip pencil. I liked the idea of the nail pen but I preferred the packaging of the regular nail polish.

Hi Erica — That’s exactly what I thought as well, the pen was too much of a novelty for me. If it wasn’t for the top coat, my nails would look quite messy.

those polishes are gorgeous and I have never seen a nail polish pen before I believe. Super cool.

Hi Honey — Neither have I, I didn’t even know they existed. Really cool concept! I think they are great to carry around for touchups when the polish starts chipping.

I’ve tried nail polish pens from Sally Hansen. I loved how easy it was to apply but it didn’t last as long as other polish formulas. I’d love to try these because I liked that application format!

Hi Miranda — Ooh, I had no idea Sally Hansen made nail polish pens, I might have to check them out just to compare with this one. Good to know you liked it!

Love LAQA & Co polishes! I got a couple during one of Birchbox’s Discovery Dashes and I’m so happy that I did. New Fangled is a really beautiful blue for springtime.

    • April 13, 2014 / 6:02 pm

Hi there — I’m glad that you like New Fangled, too! I agree, it’s such a pretty shade for Spring, it’s not quite pastel, but not deep blue either – it’s somewhere in the middle. I originally heard about LAQA & Co from Birchbox, too, and I had their lip duo on my wishlist for a while now ๐Ÿ™‚

I really love the colors! I got one sample of their pen a while back, but it was filled with CLEAR polish. Not even a topcoat, just clear polish. I think it’s in the bottom of a drawer somewhere.

    • April 14, 2014 / 10:18 am

Hi Nidia — Wait, what? Clear polish? Now that’s interesting… I don’t even know what’s the point of clear polishes, unless it’s for creating your own necro colors. It would be nice for touchups though, especially along the nail edge.

Hi Laura — I promise, this demo would not be very exciting, because I felt like a toddler holding a fork for the first time. I need a lot of practice before I can do demos with this pen, haha ๐Ÿ™‚

Beautiful shades!! And I love the packaging!!!

    • April 14, 2014 / 10:20 am

Hi Brooke — Glad you mentioned the packaging, after all those are small pieces of art! LAQA & Co. donates a portion of their proceeds to young artists who “dressed” these polishes ๐Ÿ™‚

That is the perfect blue! OMG!

    • April 15, 2014 / 10:01 am

Hi there — So glad you are loving it, I like it a lot, too ๐Ÿ™‚ The formula glides on like buttah, and the wand is long and slender, making it super easy to use.

It looks like they’re using Greg-guillemin’s art from “The Secret Life of Heroes” for the newfangled nail polish-but I don’t see them referencing him anywhere. Isn’t that weird?

    • April 23, 2014 / 6:09 pm

Hi there! — They do reference him on their UK site and every other one that I’ve seen, just not on the US for some reason. I think it’s just their webmaster’s hiccup.
