The Period Projects: Help Create Change for Women

This conversation was sponsored by Kotex, but all ideas and opinions are my own.

U by Kotex Power to the Period

You may have heard about The Period Projects, an unprecedented ongoing multi-year program that consists of a series of campaigns driven by women like you and me. Those wonderful ladies have one common motive in mind: to empower, educate, and create positive change, however big or small.

The latest project was inspired by a simple tweet. After learning that many women in homeless shelters don’t have access to basic feminine care, Holly Sanchez took her concerns to Twitter. Kotex partnered with Holly and DoSomething.org to create the U by Kotex Power to the Period initiative, the first ever national period products donation drive. The Power to the Period campaign examines the personal needs of women experiencing homelessness and spreads awareness about the limited access to period products for these individuals, encouraging people to buy and donate an extra pack of feminine care products to a homeless shelter.

DoSomething.org encourages young people to support volunteer programs in their local communities as well as worldwide. With over 5.3 million members in 131 countries, this is one of the largest global organizations that supports a wide variety of causes and movements, including U by Kotex Power to the Period initiative.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Donate unopened packages of period products [pads, panty liners, etc.], as opposed to individually wrapped items to comply with hygienic safety guidelines. It’s also important that women are able to see the instructions on the package. U by Kotex® brand will also make product donations on behalf of DoSomething.org contest winners, participants can sign up HERE for a chance to win a $5,000 scholarship.

For more information visit UbyKotex.com, DoSomething.org/Period or text PERIOD to 38383 to learn how to get involved. Join the conversation on social media by using the hashtag #PeriodProjects, and maybe you will be the next one to partner with Kotex and inspire change for women!

I make up backpacks for the homeless and always include feminine care products. It is something that people don’t think about when they are donating but I can’t imagine not having what you need as a woman during that time of the month!

I have a charity coming to pick up items on Saturday and I like putting in personal products like this. It’s great that Kotex has this initiative.

What a great cause. I don’t buy these supplies for myself, but it didn’t occur to me to pick them up to donate. That is definitely going to happen. Thank you for this article.
