Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream

Here’s everything you need to know about Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream before its official launch date on March 10th…

Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream

ABOUT THE CREAM:

klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream is a comforting moisture cream that delivers intense, long-lasting, and soothing hydration. It is formulated using revolutionary Guaiazulene combined with Centella Asiatica extract and various peptides to aid recovery for damaged skin.

This targeted treatment works to rapidly soothe and calm extremely sensitive and irritated skin by restoring the healthy moisture barrier.

The cream boasts two star ingredients:

  • Guaiazulene – Herbal ingredient extracted from Chamomile flower. It’s natural color is deep purple, which is why the treatment appears blue in the jar. Clinical trials in Japan showed that Guaiazulene effectively soothes and cools down inflamed and damaged skin and boosts the recovery process. For those reason it’s often used in traditional medicine as an ointment for burns.
  • Centella Asiatica Extract – Extract from a Madagascar plant, also called “Tiger Grass.” Centella Asiatica helps regenerate damaged skin and prevent the formation of scars.

klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream also contains moisturizing Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramide 3 for evening out skin texture, softening Shea Butter, nourishing Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, and pH-balancing Jojoba Seed Oil.

PRESENTATION:

This cream comes in a small elegant black glass jar, and an outer box made of recycled cardboard. While it’s called the Midnight cream, the actual color is closer to pastel sky blue. Still gorgeous though! As for the packaging, you know my stance on jar moisturizers: give me a spatula or I will be a sad panda. klairs makes me a very happy panda, because they provided a nice clear plastic scoop, which is the most sanitary way of using a moisturizer that comes in a jar.

klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream is not unscented. It has a strong natural herbal fragrance that reminds me of YUNI serum, but despite its potency I never found it offensive or headache-inducing. From the perspective of a chronic migraine sufferer that’s really good news, because I’m sensitive to a lot of fragrances.

HOW TO USE:

Apply a small amount topically on clean skin AM and PM after using a toner, serum, and moisturizer as the last step in your skincare routine. Make sure you give the cream time to absorb prior to applying makeup, or it may pill.

MY THOUGHTS:

If you read my previous skincare reviews or follow me on Snapchat, you know I have this annoying red spot between my bottom lip and my chin that always seems to be irritated and flaky. It’s incredibly hard to cover with makeup, and some foundations make it look even more obvious. I’ve been using klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream to soothe it, and you know what, I think it’s working! It’s the only area that consistently bothers me, aside from the occasional red streaks in the outer corners of my eyes after makeup removal, and I almost gave up finding treatment for it. I don’t know if Midnight Blue cream can permanently desensitize that spot, but on the days when I used it I didn’t feel that itchy-stingy feeling like I normally do. Also, those moisturizing serums and ampoules that I drench my chin with in the hopes of making that area less noticeable under makeup seem to be finally showing results.

When I first saw this, I immediately thought of Tatcha, but then to hear it goes over moisturizer? Can’t say I’ve seen anything like that before. How intriguing! Very cool to hear it might have some permanent effects!

It’s a new type of product for me too, don’t think I’ve tried anything like it before. I don’t know if it’s due to this blue cream or because of my routine change, but that red patch on my chin is gone!

I’ve never heard of this brand! Thanks for introducing me to it

You’re welcome! Klairs is actually one of the few cruelty-free Korean brands.

It sounds very similar to Tatcha’s blue cream, but I’m not sure why this is meant to go over an existing moisturizer. While it may not have every skincare ingredient it in, it has plenty of oils, shea and HA to moisturize. When I run out of my lovely blue cream from Tatcha, I may try this one next.

    • March 13, 2016 / 4:39 pm

It really does, doesn’t it? Compared to Tatcha, this one is more concentrated and doesn’t really sink in. That’s why it’s marketed as a topical treatment and not an all-over moisturizer.

I don’t have sensitive skin but it is ever more prone to redness, as I get *gulp* older. I’m always on the lookout for products that calm and allow my skin to return to it’s natural tone. This could be helpful.

    • March 13, 2016 / 4:36 pm

I found out that this cream works like magic on breakouts too, it makes the redness and puffiness go away overnight!

Great, detailed review. I don’t have extremely sensitive skin, but I would definitely try this out.

    • March 13, 2016 / 4:34 pm

I believe klairs formulated this cream as a topical treatment rather than an all-over moisturizer for sensitive skin. It works well on any kind of irritation, from bug bites to painful acne bumps. So far it’s a winner for me!

This sound fabulous, I don’t need it right now, but I do get dry patches sometimes and it would be perfect for that!

    • March 13, 2016 / 4:34 pm

Agreed, this cream is great for treating an occasional irritated spot or dry patch.

  7. March 7, 2016 / 9:36 pm

I kinda really dig that it’s blue!! Would love to just have this in my collection!

    • March 13, 2016 / 4:33 pm

Same! That blue color makes this product so much more attractive for some reason 🙂

  8. March 7, 2016 / 11:29 pm

I don’t have a lot of problems with redness or irritation, but I love the sound of it.. and I’m intrigued by the broccoli oil! how neat is that.

    • March 13, 2016 / 4:30 pm

Broccoli oil is definitely not something you see often on the ingredient list, haha!

  9. March 8, 2016 / 12:40 pm

There is something about a blue cream or gel that makes me feel like it will soothe my skin so as soon as I seen this product I thought to myself… ooh – soothing. I don’t normally have issues with my skin needing soothing unless it’s allergy season or something along those lines where my skin gets the brunt of the weather. The ingredients in this cream sound really cool – broccoli oil??? wow! I like the sound of this.

    • March 13, 2016 / 4:29 pm

I has googly eyes when I saw the list of ingredients – so many cool things that you rarely see anywhere else! And I agree, something about that blue color is instantly associated with a soothing effect in my mind.

I have red dots on my cheeks , and this might be the answer

    • March 13, 2016 / 4:28 pm

It’s worth a try, for sure!

  11. March 9, 2016 / 10:17 am

Is it weird I love that its blue? ha ha! This sounds like an awesome product!

    • March 13, 2016 / 4:25 pm

Haha, nope not at all! I am also attracted to it partially because of the unusual color 🙂
