Keeping It Light This Summer With Drugstore Beauty Essentials

Can you believe it’s Summer already? I swear, I feel like I was just recently wishing for the snow to melt, and now we’re in the mid 90s almost every day. When it’s so hot outside, I usually opt in for lightweight makeup products that help enhance my natural beauty, just enough to add a pop of color for that fresh natural look.

By now you probably know that I love featuring Walgreens on this blog. This drugstore chain has a special place in my heart, because it’s the closest place to my house where I can buy makeup [it’s probably just a block away], and they consistently have all the latest collections there. So convenient! On my recent trip to I picked up several buzzworthy products to add to my Summer makeup stash.

This lip stain is the perfect everyday Summer color for me!

One of the things I got was Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain in London Posh. I read so many glowing reviews on various beauty blogs, I just had to try one of these for myself! I chose this neutral shimmery peachy shade, because it’s a pretty safe color that will suit almost anyone, and it lived up to my expectations and then some! It made my lips look and feel moisturized and made lip lines less visible in one swipe of a wand.

The mascara provides fantastic definition and volume without clumps.

Another product I picked up was Maybelline Volum’Express Pumped Up Colossal Mascara in Glam Black. I saw ads on TV promising some crazy volume and a unique wand shape that eliminates all clumps. I’m all for trying new things, so I applied it on my lashes soon after I got home from the store, and I think it really made a difference.

Corals for Summer is pretty much a staple. Love this blush!

While in the Maybelline area of the Beauty aisle, my eyes caught a glimpse of Master Glaze Blush Sticks. I meant to try these several months ago when they first came out, but stopped myself from buying because I already have like a zillion blushes. This time I had some points burning a hole in my Balance Rewards account so I bought one in Coral Sheen and only ended up paying like $1 out of pocket for it. Gotta love beauty savings!

T to B: Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in London Posh, Maybelline Master Glaze Blush in Coral Sheen, Maybelline Volum’ Express Pumped Up Colossal Mascara in Glam Black

My Summer makeup is usually very light and laid back, because if I cake it on it will just melt off in 2-3 hours anyway. When I know I will be spending the day outside, I usually only highlight my lips and cheeks, since my eyes will be hidden behind sunglasses most of the time. And while I’m indoors, I like to pair a neutral lippie with some light eye makeup. What I don’t skip ever is the mascara, my makeup just doesn’t feel complete without it. If I only had one makeup product to bring with me to an uninhabited island, it would definitely be a tube of mascara. And now I’m curious, what would you bring?

One of the reasons I love shopping at Walgreens is their special promotions. Just for shopping for makeup like you normally would, you can score some really nice bonuses, like this free travel-sized brush set with any $20 beauty purchase [6/29-8/31].

Thank you Judy! It’s always hard to find the right formulas for Summer, isn’t it?

    • July 9, 2014 / 10:59 pm

Thank you so much! Corals have always been among my favorite makeup shades, I’m so glad they’re trendy again 🙂

Thank you, Noelle! It’s very simple and neutral, but adds a nice pop of shimmer.

I need that blush! I really do. My usual summer look is a light colored eye with liner and mascara, a bright blush and nude lipstick or nude blush and bright lipstick! Pretty basic. Thanks for the link to the Walgreens Promos!

If you do end up getting it, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how pigmented it is and how well it stays on! I’ve avoided these blushes since they came out, but I’m glad that i finally gave them a try.

It would look beautiful on you, Brooke. I say, go for it!

Simply stunning girl. I am sooooo grabbing some of those Lippies. The blush looks wonderful and works beautifully with the lippie. You are gorgeous! Perfect look for summer, and love the pictures!!!

Aw Jamie, thanks a million, you are so sweet 🙂 <3 <3 The blush is the highlight of this look, while still being subtle.

    • July 9, 2014 / 11:03 pm

I think I am too now. I’ve been missing out!

  4. July 9, 2014 / 12:03 pm

Lately I’ve been loving to wear liquid eyeliners in a cat eye and bold lips.

    • July 9, 2014 / 11:03 pm

Lovely choices! Bold lips really suit you.

Lovely look you’ve put together! Generally,I go for the bare minimum during summer!

    • July 9, 2014 / 11:06 pm

That’s what I do, too, Destany. Even the most long-wearing makeup will eventually melt off my face, so what’s the point clogging the pores? And thank you! 🙂 <3

It’s a darn shame that I haven’t tried Maybelline’s Pumped Up mascara yet. Thanks for the reminder!

    • July 9, 2014 / 11:10 pm

You’re super welcome, you’re going to thank me for it 😉 It’s seriously a great mascara.

  8. July 9, 2014 / 2:48 pm

Thanks for the drugstore recommendations! I go pretty light on makeup during the summer too. For me, it’s highlighting concealer, cream blush, mascara, and tinted lip balm.

    • July 9, 2014 / 11:14 pm

Great picks! Light makeup for Summer is the way to go, isn’t it? I swear, they need to invent super-extra-oil-water-everything-proof long-wearing makeup, and then maybe I’ll consider it. But right now, no matter what I put on, it will melt off or cake eventually anyway, so why clog the pores, right?

  9. July 9, 2014 / 2:53 pm

    Great picks and lovely look!

  10. July 9, 2014 / 6:43 pm

I really want to try that Revlon gloss – it sounds amazing!

    • July 9, 2014 / 11:21 pm

It really is a great product, I was surprised at how much I liked it. It feels like YSL gloss!

  11. July 9, 2014 / 6:57 pm

I love the Maybelline cream blushes. I just realized I had no idea what you looked like all this time until today! Great job with the makeup!

    • July 9, 2014 / 11:26 pm

Haha, oh my, well, here I am! :)) And thank you! <3

  12. July 9, 2014 / 7:38 pm

The Revlon gloss looks amazing on you!

    • July 9, 2014 / 11:31 pm

Thank you Norah, it means a lot coming from you!

  13. July 9, 2014 / 8:10 pm

I love the masterglaze blushes! They’re nice and lightweight

    • July 9, 2014 / 11:32 pm

They really do feel great, don’t they? And the wear time is also impressive, just what we need for Summer.

This is a perfect look for summer. I want to try that mascara.

    • July 9, 2014 / 11:39 pm

Glad you like it, Mercedes! That mascara is surprisingly good, normally I don’t buy Maybelline but this time I went with my gut and didn’t regret it.

  15. July 9, 2014 / 10:07 pm

I love this entire look, the mix of the neutral peachy lip with the coral blush is beautiful!

    • July 9, 2014 / 11:40 pm

Thank you Mai, I’m so happy that my simple look goe such positive response! Corals are really perfect for Summer, aren’t they?

  16. July 9, 2014 / 10:25 pm

I love the Revlon ColorStay glosses–so pigmented!

    • July 9, 2014 / 11:41 pm

They really are, aren’t they? These glosses really feel like they belong in a department store.

  17. July 9, 2014 / 11:25 pm

I’d have to bring some kind of lippie on the island. My Ellis Faas red, if I can only have one! I’ve been curious about those Revlon glosses – I have to admit, the packaging is very chic to me. And a new version of the Colossal, one of my fave mascaras? Time to go to Walgreens…

    • July 9, 2014 / 11:29 pm

A red lippie for an uninhabited island? Now that’s a chic choice! You should definitely try those Revlon lippies, they feel just like YSL glosses.

    • July 10, 2014 / 11:28 pm

It’s a really good blush, I was pleasantly surprised.

  18. July 10, 2014 / 3:18 pm

My every day summer look doesn’t change much all year: concealer, eyebrows, mascara and a lip balm. If I am feeling adventurous I add some BB Cream, shadows and an eyeliner. =)

    • July 10, 2014 / 11:28 pm

Ooh, nice, I like consistency! I wish I could be more consistent with my makeup too, but the climate here won’t let me.

  19. July 12, 2014 / 9:25 pm

Lovely, fresh summer look! I love my Just Pinched Pink Master Glaze, so I may need to pick up the coral one that you bought. Nice haul and love your photos!
