Ipsy March 2015: Floral Fantasy

The theme for Ipsy March 2015 Glam Bag was Floral Fantasy, so all of the goodies came came in Spring-perfect cosmetic bag with a floral design over sky blue canvas. There were a few samples I was lusting over after seeing the spoilers, but unfortunately, I didn’t get any of them. I guess Ipsy curators decided that the products I ended up getting better match my beauty profile. Let’s see what I got!

Ipsy March 2015 Unboxing & Review NYX Cosmetics Butter Lipstick Hunk – I was excited to receive a NYX butter liippie, after all, everyone I know raves about these. Out of three possible colors, I feel like I got the one that matches my beauty profile the least: the beet-purple Hunk. It’s just not a flattering color for me, and I will probably give away.

Ipsy March 2015 Unboxing & Review pūr~lisse beauty delicate gentle soymilk cleanser & makeup remover – If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you might remember pur~lisse products popping up in my bags from time to time, and my overall lack of excitement for the brand. I mean, the formulas are supposed to be nice, but nothing I tried has worked for me as intended. Literally, not a single product. This cleanser for example didn’t really remove my makeup, it sort of smudged it all over my skin. Maybe I’m doing something wrong? Anyhow, for now I’m glad I have other options.

Ipsy March 2015 Unboxing & Review Dr. Brandt Skincare pores no more anti-aging mattifying lotion – I have combination skin and usually look for mattifying products in order to control my T-zone, but this lotion was just too drying. I think it will work better for someone with really oily skin.

Ipsy March 2015 Unboxing & Review Boo-Boo Cover-Up Medium – Oh, how excited I was to finally be able to try this concealer! It was recommended to me by several beauty blogger friends, so my expectations were sky high. Formula-wise it’s fabulous indeed, but I was bummed that I received the Medium shade, which is way too dark and too orange for my complexion: I definitely can’t make it work even if I try. Now I need to swatch the light color and see if that matches my skin, because if it does, I might have potentially discovered a new HG 😉

Ipsy March 2015 Unboxing & Review VINTAGE by Jessica Liebeskind Illuminating Face Highlighter – This is a cute little sample that is about the same size as the ‘Tini Beauty eyeshadow from the February bag. I think it works best as a cheek topper over your regular blush to add that glamorous luminous finish, but I wouldn’t use it as a highlighter anywhere else. I tried it on the eyes, but it just made me look sick.

Ipsy March 2015 Unboxing & Review [BONUS] bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick Be Free – I redeemed 1000 points for this reward, and so glad I did, because it turned out to be the highlight of my bag. Creamy texture and really good staying power pretty much ensured that it will be one of my most reached for lipsticks for months to come.

THE VERDICT: Compared to my February bag, this one was much weaker, because the only product I will continue using is the luminizer, and of course, the lipstick that I got with ipsypoints. I would have loved the concealer as well if only the color was a better match. As you know, I’m not really against skin care, but this time the samples just didn’t perform that well.

I had the same experience with the concealer- I’m fair yet I got the medium color. Such a bummer.

Right? And the formula is just so nice and pigmented, and seems to stay put, too. I swatched it on my arm and that patch stayed on all day, even though that area rubbed against my clothes for hours. Really bummed that I didn’t get the lighter shade; sometimes I wonder if Ipsymatch is even a real thing or they made it up so people wouldn’t complain.

You and I got the exact same bag. I too loved the Boo Boo Concealer but the medium shade was way too dark. I looked it up online, and only the Medium shade comes in a sample size so that’s why we all got it. I adore the BM Marvelous Moxie lipstick formula. Since getting a mini in my ipsy bag last year, I’ve bought two more.

Isn’t that lipstick amazing? I am generally not interested in bareMinerals, but after getting a lipstick sample in my Ipsy bag last year that’s their only product that I like.

What a great bag! The cleanser sounds great.

It’s probably good for someone with a different skin type, because it didn’t work for me. Maybe someone with dry skin could benefit from it more?

I also received the boo boo coverup, they only had it in medium, I complained about the complete disregard of my information and they ended up sending me a replacement product. After my March bag, and what I am getting in my April bag, I cancelled. They are completely ignoring our surveys and reviews now. 🙁

Yikes, I know how you feel. I should probably follow your footsteps and complain, because I clearly listed in my profile that I am super pale. There’s just no way a Medium concealer could ever work for me.

The highlighter looks so pretty! The NYX lip color is nice too.

    • April 12, 2015 / 1:26 am

The highlighter is even prettier in person, the pictures don’t do it justice! And I wish that lipstick color worked for me, but I just don’t wear lippies that dark.

I not subscriped to ipsy but I think this bag actually looks pretty good. I may have to try it for a month or two.

    • April 12, 2015 / 1:27 am

It’s only $10/month so you wouldn’t be losing much. Although sometimes I feel like even 10 bucks is a waste of money for the products I get.

  7. April 9, 2015 / 9:07 pm

    That highlighter looks nice!

    • April 12, 2015 / 1:27 am

It’s quite lovely in person, and works really well as a blush topper.

Cute bag but I’m not sorry I cancelled.

    • April 12, 2015 / 1:28 am

I understand, after getting this bag I wouldn’t be sorry either.

The only think I liked in my bag was the Vintage Highlighter which I use over a blush. The rest is good but not for me. Sounds like you had a very similar experience.

    • April 12, 2015 / 1:28 am

That’s exactly how I’m using my highlighter, it really works so well as a blush topper and the formula is very nice 🙂

I think it’s funny that you think you might be using the cleanser wrong. I’m imagining the tech support call on that one: you are using water, right? and applying it to your skin? rubbing it around? yes, on your skin. No, don’t get it in your eyes. Don’t do that. Just don’t. LOLOL!

    • April 12, 2015 / 1:30 am

You know, that needed a disclaimer, because I don’t want to completely discredit the product, since it probably worked for someone else. As for me… It smudged the makeup all over my face and I felt like I needed extra soap to scrub it all off. Yikes! Not a very pleasant experience.

I love dark vampy shades so I’d probably like that NYX lippy

    • April 12, 2015 / 1:31 am

That color is right up your alley, Kath!

  12. April 10, 2015 / 2:05 pm

That highlighter is gorgeous. I have that NYX shade and love it. I seen some of the stuff in the April bag… after I cancel, some fun things – go figure. LOL Oh well, I still am happy I cancelled.

    • April 12, 2015 / 1:31 am

I don’t blame you, I think if I canceled last month I wouldn’t be sorry to miss out on this bag either.

  13. April 10, 2015 / 6:26 pm

I loveeeedddd my March bag. I got the skyn Iceland eye gels and lost my mind because I’m obsessed with them. I loved my NYX shade too.

    • April 12, 2015 / 1:32 am

Oooh, those eye gels are the best thing ever! I won a pack of those in a giveaway a long time ago, and then repurchased them several times since. They really work wonders 🙂

  14. April 14, 2015 / 5:14 am

Bummer about the lip colour and the concealer shade. I hope there’s better luck in the April bag.

    • April 15, 2015 / 11:41 am

Thank you, I hope to get a better match next time!

  15. April 14, 2015 / 6:51 am

Ooh the Hunk lipstick is super pretty! Love NYX!

    • April 15, 2015 / 11:41 am

I love NYX products too, its one of my favorite drugstore brands!

We received the exact same bags. Yes, the “highlighter” can’t be used as one. Good idea though on using over other blushes. I wasn’t too thrilled with the other products either. lol

    • April 15, 2015 / 11:43 am

Apparently people love our bags, Natalie 🙂 You should definitely try the highlighter over your blush, it actually looks really nice.
