Packing Beauty Products for Holiday Travels: What to Bring and What to Leave at Home

Holiday travel is as much of a tradition as the holidays themselves. Whether you’re traveling to see the family, or taking a much-needed vacation in a tropical country, there’s one thing we all dread: the packing process. Even though I consider myself a seasoned traveler, I still get stressed trying to figure out what to bring and what to leave at home, all while keeping in mind the numerous TSA regulations. And don’t get me started on the fear of leaving something important behind, like my camera charger or a passport.

Today I teamed up with Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant to share my tips on packing the right beauty products, so you have everything you need for a relaxing trip.

WHAT TO BRING:

“Traveling is not the time to experiment with a new product and risking skin irritations or rashes. If you have limited suitcase space to work with, stick to the essentials: a cleanser; sunscreen; deodorant; hand lotion, and the makeup you use on a regular basis,” says Dove Dermatologist Dr. Alicia Barba.

When I travel, I usually bring the bare minimum, and that’s when multi-tasking products really shine. A natural non-emulsifying beauty oil can be used as a makeup remover, a body lotion, a nighttime moisturizer, and to smooth flyaways, since frizzy hair is one of my biggest issues during the winter months.

A sophisticated facial sunscreen with added skin-loving ingredients, like peptides, vitamins, and botanical extracts, can have the benefits of several different products in one. I found the perfect sunscreen that delivers just that, so I rarely pack a daytime moisturizer for short trips anymore.

Comfort is essential during travel, that’s why the sensitive underarm skin “shouldn’t be overlooked”, says Dr. Barba. “Textures and fabrics in sweaters, undergarments and t-shirts can irritate the skin. Underneath all those layers, you’ll need a product that keeps you hydrated and protected. Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant is formulated with moisturizers to help alleviate irritation and leave you with softer and smoother underarms.”

I recently added Dove Advanced Care to my routine, and now use it daily to care for the delicate skin of my underarms. It smells amazing, and makes my underarm area feel soothed and fresh throughout the day, so I have one less thing to worry about. Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant provides 48-hour odor and wetness protection, plus added skin care benefits for softer, smoother underarms.

WHAT TO LEAVE AT HOME:

Aerosols. Bringing aerosols on a plane is a bad idea to begin with, but did you know that you won’t be allowed to bring them even in checked-in baggage if the lids are loose or can easily pop off? Skip the cans and try non-aerosol hairspray, solid perfume, and solid deodorant, like Dove Advanced Care, instead.

Full-sized products (unless they are small to begin with). All of those chunky bottles and tubes take up a lot of precious space, and will only weigh you down. Either pick up your favorites in mini-size, or decant them into travel-friendly containers. You can find them at local stores or order online. Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant is TSA-approved in full size, but you can also grab the travel-sized stick if you prefer to pack light.

Hair dryer. Most hotels will provide one, and if you’re staying with family or friends, chances are high they will have one you can borrow, too.

And now it’s your turn to share! Check out Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant and tell me, what 3 essential beauty products do you always bring when you travel? Let me know in the comments below!

Reordering is a must when I travel. I put it in my purse to freshen up after a flight

Same here! I also pack some cleansing wipes, and wipe my skin with them in the bathroom to freshen up.

I prefer multi-taskers, and sample sizes when I travel, unless I’m going to a place where shopping isn’t on the agenda LOL.

Same here! Although I still manage to bring a few full-sized products that aren’t too large.

I always try to bring sample sizes with me so I can fit as much as I can in a bag that I don’t have to check! I always bring my travel aerosol hair spray though, lol!

Oh my, haha! Good thing they haven’t caught you with that aerosol yet!

Since I’m going abroad in February I need all the tips I can get. My husband uses a spray deodorant so I’m going to have to get him used to something like the Dove (in a different scent).

I always bring a hydrating face cream to help my dry skin.

    • January 8, 2018 / 11:36 pm

A hydrating cream is a must when I travel, too. My skin gets super dry on flights and during long car rides.

Yes to all your tips. Those samples, sachets or otherwise come in handy too for travel

Oh, good ideas! I always bring lotion, a lip mask, and a cuticle balm!

    • January 8, 2018 / 11:36 pm

A lip mask? Now that’s something I hadn’t thought of, but I love your idea!
