It’s been a while since I reviewed a From the Lab box, but I still remember how excited I was to have been one of its first subscribers back in June 2013 when the service first launched. A year later, they released this special July box to celebrate 1-year Anniversary and treat subscribers to four of their most-loved products.
HOW IT WORKS
From The Lab is a new subscription service that offers its members a sneak peek into the future of the beauty industry by sending up to three full-sized “revolutionary” products every month, straight from the world’s top beauty laboratories. The membership costs $29.95/month. Important to mention that all of the products sent out are paraben-free.

Even though From The Lab boxes normally contain up to three full-sized products, the July shipment had four [and some lucky ladies also received a full-sized lip primer] products: Face Primer #327 from June 2013, Hair Mask #718 from September 2013, AM/PM Cleanser #586 from October 2013, and Face Mask #598 from February 2014. I actually received three of these before, when I was still a subscriber, and I definitely agree that they were wonderful!
*Estimated values are based on products’ expected retail value, based on the quality and rarity of the ingredients.
Face Primer #327 [est. value $32.50] – This was actually the first face primer I used up, because it worked well with all my BB creams and liquid foundations without weighing down my skin. I liked it for binding my makeup with skincare, so it stayed put even on very hot days. According to From The Lab, this primer also boasts anti-aging and anti-shine properties.
Hair Mask #718 [est. value $75] – When I first received this mask last year, I just couldn’t make it work for me no matter what: my hair would always end up looking dirty and limp. But now that it’s summer and my locks are extra crispy from all the sun and chlorine, they seem to take this mask a lot better. I normally apply a small amount from roots to ends, leave it on my hair for 20-30 minutes, then thoroughly wash it off with a sulfate-free shampoo.
AM/PM Cleanser #586 [est. value $45] – This cleanser works like a micellar water, and is best used as a final step of cleansing routine right before I start layering my skincare products. It really makes my skin feel so fresh and moisturized!
Face Mask #598 [est. value $62.50] – I’m a harsh critic when it comes to masks, because I tried so many of them, but this one stands out from the crowd. It has a soothing gel-cream formula that moisturizes, cools, and calms irritated skin. You know that I’ve been obsessed with Korean cosmetics lately, and I recently learned that cooling products are actually all the rage in Asia right now, because apparently hot skin ages faster. Eastern beauty experts recommend keeping the surface of the skin at +31C [88 F] or lower by using special products with cooling properties. This mask also features some unique extracts I don’t recall seeing before in my skincare, like absinthe and heart of the sea algae extracts.
To remind you, these products are all considered to be “final stage lab samples”, which means they are all finished products that have not been picked up by a cosmetic company yet. From The Lab only selects the formulas that will go to high end and luxury brands, so I always knew I was getting a great deal. I only hope that they will eventually release the final names at least for some of these products. Wouldn’t it be cool to know that you were one of the first people to try a Chanel cleanser?
I wasn’t familiar with this brand or sub box. It sounds fabulous!
It’s unlike any other beauty subscription service I know, that’s for sure.
I have never heard of this before. Thank you for introducing me to it. It’s unique.
The primer sounds great. Being oily skinned I love anything anti-shine.
I have that cleanser. I don’t use it as much as I should
Great price for full sized products
That face mask sounds great
I definitely want to try out that hair mask!
I´ve never heard of this brand before, but I have to try this primer!
That is such a cool idea, trying things before they get a brand name label on them. I have so many sub boxes, but I think I need to look into this one!
I haven’t tried this yet, but it’s such a neat idea! Thanks for the review!
Must have the hair mask!!
I have been curious about the “From the Lab” products. Sounds fantastic!
That face primer sounds promising!
Haven’t heard of this before. I would be willing to try it out
I haven’t heard of it either but it sounds amazing
That mask looks interesting to me. Is there a sub box out there you aren’t subbed to? LOL
I feel like part of the shopping experience is purchasing from a brand (maybe due to brand loyalty) but I like the idea behind the box, especially if they do decide to tell you if any are eventually released by a major brand.
Wow – I’ve never heard of this company, but those products sound very nice!
They really work well, and feel high end.
I’ve heard of this and tried it before… but … idk I just can’t without the label behind it lol ugh. I’m gross. My OCD gets the best of me with the weirdest things.
I know what you mean, there’s definitely a certain level of trust that comes with a brand name.
This is an interesting box.
I’ve been a subscribe since May. Love this line! I use the cleanser & lip balms almost daily!
Wow this is kind of cool. I don’t need any more skin products for the rest of my life but it’s still something i would buy haha
I want to try that primer!
looks like a fab box!
