I confess, I often ordered fresh Sugar Lip Treatment minis with my Sephora points, and even made unplanned beauty purchases just so I could use a GWP code for these. I welcomed them with open arms in my beauty subscription boxes and mystery grab bags, but to this day, I have never ever owned a full-sized tube. I always went to great lengths to acquire those adorable minis. Each time I ran out, I frantically began searching for another way to obtain a replacement without actually buying the full-sized tube [while spending money on stuff I don’t need in the process, lol]. At this point, I’m pretty sure I had spent more dough trying to score the freebies than if I had just just purchased one already, haha!

Moral of the story: If you consistently crave a beauty product that is within your spending budget, just get it girl, treat yo self.

A couple weeks ago I received a lovely package from fresh filled with some of the the brand’s latest releases and bestsellers, including my favorite lip balms in assorted shades. I had tried some of these before, but others were totally new to me, so I thought I’d give you guys a quick brief on these plus a few swatches.

First of all, yes fresh Sugar Lip Treatments are priced similarly to what you would pay for a decent lipstick at Sephora or Ulta; these are definitely on the higher end when it comes to lip balms. However, what sets them apart is all of the options you have, in addition to really fabulous base formula. You can choose lip balms with SPF15 and without, lightly tinted for a hint of color, or richly pigmented that look like buttery lipsticks [pure or pearlescent] – there are seriously so many options!

fresh Sugar Lip Treatments are great for someone like me who loves lip products, but hates the fuss of wearing lipstick every day. I do, in fact, prefer tints and buttery formulas that don’t wear very long, since long-lasting lipsticks tend to wear out unevenly and require touchups. Of course there are rare standouts that are truly bullet proof, but those are few and far between.

This blog post is not going to be a review. You are probably already familiar with these luxurious lip balms, or at least have an idea what they are from reading other beauty blogs. In the past two months I focused heavily on rich, long, well-researched articles, that were insightful and took a considerable amount of time and effort to write. Today I just want to keep it sweet and short, and show you a few swatches of the colors fresh sent me to try, as well as talk about my thoughts on these in general.

So, as you already know, I love these lip balms. I tried the original plain one with SPF, and a couple different color variations before [Petal and Tulip], both of which are beautiful and look incredible on my lips. The colors I got to try this time are Nude, Honey, Bloom, and Rose, as well as the plain untinted variety. I also received a jar of fresh Sugar Lip Polish and new fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Perfecting Wand that just hit the shelves at Sephora.

Sadly, this twist-up wand was not very effective for my chronically chapped lips. The formula contains some seriously amazing ingredients like loofah oil, cupuaçu butter, and black currant oil, but the applicator doesn’t seem to actually exfoliate the dry cells off my lips, so all this goodness just sits there atop the shreds of dead skin. This is only my personal experience, and I’m sure that there are a lot of people whose lips are in better starting condition than mine who will really enjoy everything fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Perfecting Wand has to offer. I have found one product that works really well for me, and you can get it at Target. Can you guess what it is? 😉

I don’t use fresh Sugar Lip Polish as an actual exfoliant, since I already have another product for that, but it is great for buffing the lips in the morning before applying makeup. It makes them feel plush, plump, and hydrated, and the lipstick actually goes on better and seems to last longer. I pretty much gave up on lip scrubs, but this one is quickly growing on me.

Now, the lip balms are the real stars of the show here. I use the plain untinted one as a primer for lipsticks, which works surprisingly well. I also like to use it when I go to the beach or to the pool. Tinted varieties are ideal for a no-fuss makeup look, so if you are someone whose idea of a full-face makeup is a light layer of BB cream and maybe one quick coat of mascara on a good day, each of these tinted lip balms would make your look complete. They are easy to use, and you don’t have to be precise, like with liquid and regular lipsticks. Just swipe it on, rub your lips together, and you’re done.

All fresh Sugar Lip Treatments have a yummy citrus scent and are free of petroleum, mineral oil, and lanolin. SPF 15 is provided by EWG-approved Avobenzone 2% and Octinoxate 7.49%, so your lips are protected from the UV rays throughout the day as long as you remember to reapply from time to time. Luckily, with these luxurious lip balms it never feels like a chore.
