Empties: May 2013

I’ve been saving up a big bag with my May empties, but earlier today when I was about to take pictures I realized that I can’t find it anywhere! Turns out, my husband thought it was trash and threw it out. I guess, it’s a logical conclusion for anybody who doesn’t get the concept of “empties” when they see a tied up plastic bag with a pile empty products, so I’m not mad at him for trying to be tidy.

Here are the contents of the second bag that I kept in my bathroom, it’s nowhere as full as the other one was, but it’s something, right? 🙂
Aveda Invati Shampoo & Conditioner – These are fabulous hair products that I was using when my hair started falling out for no reason. Well, I guess there was a reason, but I just didn’t know what it was. This duo actually works really well, my hair felt and looked a lot fuller and by the time I finished both bottles I noticed I had a lot less hair left on the brushes.
Overall: 5/5
Purchase: Yes
Orofluido Hair Elixir – Goopy golden hair serum, with tons of silicones in it to help the oils spread more evenly. At first I really liked it, but over time I got indifferent. It worked ok, but there are other products that worked better.
Overall: 4/5
Purchase: No
DermOrganic Leave-in Hair Treatment – One word: love! It smells amazing (coconut-y) and makes my hair super smooth, silky, and shiny without adding a lot of extra weight to it. I actually fell in love with every single DermOrganic product I have tried so far.
Overall: 5/5
Purchase: Yes
Nexxus Youth Renewal Serum – Works amazingly well on my split ends, they became softer and more manageable and don’t stick out nearly as much. I’m using a full-sized version right now and will most likely re-purchase when I run out.
Overall: 5/5
Purchase: Yes
Matrix ExquisiteOil – Didn’t like it as much as the previous two, although it made my hair look silky smooth, it definitely weighed it down, which is why I won’t be using it anymore.
Overall: 3/5
Purchase: No
Forest Essentials Bath and Shower Oil – Yep, I goofed and paired this body oil with my hair products. Whatever. It smells absolutely amazing, if you’re into jasmine, I know I am. It can be worn instead of your usual perfume because it’s incredibly fragrant, and makes the entire room smell of flowers.
Overall: 4/5
Purchase: Yes
Pond’s Luminous Clean Wet Towelettes – Amazing product! I’m obsessed with cleansing towelettes, and always have them in my beauty pantry. These are currently my favorite, but I’m trying two other brands just to compare. I like that they are super wet so my makeup easily comes off, and that they don’t irritate my eyes.
Overall: 5/5
Purchase: Yes
Dr. Brandt Pores No More – didn’t really clean out my pores, only slightly got rid of some oil and that’s about it. The same effect can be achieved without the $45 price tag, that you’d have to pay for the full-sized product.
Overall: 2.5/5
Purchase: No
Clark’s Botanicals Smoothing Marine Cream – Wonderful moisturizer, makes my skin super smooth thanks to the glycolic acid included in the formula. It was nice to try, but it made my skin more sensitive to the sun, so I probably won’t even consider purchasing the full sized version.
Overall: 4.5/5
Purchase: No
Mario Badescu Special Cucumber Lotion – Didn’t care for this tones at all, it felt like I didn’t put anything on my face. My skin didn’t feel toned or moisturized.
Overall: 1/5
Purchase: No
One Love Organics Brand New Day – This is kind of a “make your own scrub” enzyme powder. You can mix it with yogurt, milk or water to create your own fresh exfoliant each time you need to deep clean your face. This one was good, but I liked the ones from Tatcha more.
Overall: 4/5
Purchase: No
Actifirm Renovation Eye Cream – I found that this eye cream worked pretty well to reduce morning puffiness without me having to put it in the fridge first. I usually don’t repurchase eye creams and prefer to just keep using new ones all the time.
Overall: 4.5/5
Purchase: No
St. Ives Naturally Soothing Body Lotion – Well, it’s alright I guess, nothing special. I got 10 of these super cheap last year so I’m using them all over the house. I wouldn’t buy them again, though.
Overall: 3/5
Purchase: No
Shea Radiance Kalahari Melon Whipped Shea Butter – Unlike Shea Terra’s whilled body butters, this one was rock solid which made it hard to scoop out, which is the reason why I didn’t like it much.
Overall: 3.5/5
Purchase: No
Lifetherapy Mood Enhancing Body Wash in Escape – I love Lifetherapy body washes, the fragrances always remind me of some high end perfumes and they’re very moisturizing too!
Overall: 4.5/5
Purchase: Yes
Whish Shave Cream – Got this sample in my Birchbox a while ago and just now finished it. I liked the way it made my legs feel and the close shave it provided, but I realized that it’s pretty much the same thing as a hair conditioner.
Overall: 4/5
Purchase: No
The Green House Relaxing Bath Salts – These bath salts smell absolutely divine! They contain tiny pieces of dried lavender flowers which adds a little glamour to your usual bath ritual 🙂
Overall: 4.5/5
Purchase: Yes
Disclosure: I bought this.

That’s sad about your other bag:( I always keep mine in a cloth basket so that never happens. But kudos for your husband cleaning up!

I love the Ponds makeup wipes because of how wet they are. They never feel like they are tugging at my skin. To save a few bucks I buy the CVS brand that is compared to them.

Yup, those are probably the wettest wipes I’ve come across so far, and it always feels like you’re using a wet washcloth or something. Leaves a very fresh and clean feeling 🙂

Never thought to try the CVS ones but now I’m definitely going to, especially if you say they compae to Ponds. Thanks for the tip!

You’re welcome! I wish I knew of a cheaper version, but this duo definitely works 🙂

I love this idea!! I started a bag today to keep up with my empties for the month of June. My husband is going to think I’ve officially lost my mind as the trash piles up…. Hahaha!

They just don’t get it, do they :)) It’s always so satisfying to see empty bottles, like you’ve actually used up what you bought.
