Elizabeth & Clarke Winter 2015 Review

I’ve come across several fashion subscription services that I liked, but none like Elizabeth & Clarke, who kindly sent me their Winter Collection to try. The company was founded on the notion that every woman deserves affordable high quality basics. E&C founders scour the fashion industry for inspiration to make sure every new design is timeless yet current, and perfectly adapted for real life situations.

HOW IT WORKS: Why pay a fortune for a good blouse when you could receive a beautiful piece [or three!] every season as low as $20 each? All tops are well-made and perfectly adapted for real life, so you won’t see any of that “dry clean only” business! Elizabeth & Clarke boxes go out quarterly and cost $30-$60/season depending on which box option you choose. The Winter Collection included three cozy pieces perfect for cold weather. The first one I tried was The Scott Top, a lightweight long-sleeved basic tee, that would have bin too basic if not for that interesting neckline. It has a loose fit and flattering design that can work for any body type without accentuating things most of us usually want to hide. The stretchy fabric is perfect for the Holidays!

Care tips: 65% microfiber modal, 35% cotton; machine-wash cold with like colors, tumble dry warm.

The next piece is called The Cooper Top. It’s a one piece designed to look like a two piece ensemble, with a gray sweater layered over a thin white blouse. I much prefer this version, because whenever I try to do something similar I almost always end up with awkward wrinkles on my arms that are impossible to straighten out without outside help. Just like the previous top, this one features comfortable loose fit, so you can squeeze in an undershirt or two on particularly cold days and still look fab!

Care tips: 60% cotton, 40% acrylic; machine-wash cold with like colors, lay flat to dry.

The Carson Vest was the last piece in the collection, and my favorite item in the box. I loved the unusual color and the asymmetric cut. The vest is fully lined on the inside, making it as comfortable as it is elegant. I wear my vests as accessories rather than legit clothing pieces, so I never button them down. This one features a zipper that creates a wide plunging collar when closed all the way up. When unzipped, the fabric flows along the body, creating a flattering silhouette. Unlike the other two pieces, The Carson Vest is fitted, so it sits snuggly on your body. The fabric has a little stretch to it, but not much, so thank goodness for that zipper 🙂

Care tips: 100% Ponte de Roma knit; machine-wash cold with like colors, lay flat to dry.

The verdict: I really like the concept of this subscription service, and the pieces were of much higher quality than I thought they were going to be. Everything was well-made and well-designed with everyday wear in mind.
