Donating to Women’s Shelters: Nothing is Too Small

November is the month of giving, so let’s talk about donating. As a beauty blogger I often receive more products for editorial consideration than I can test, so I end up giving away some to friends and family, and sometimes I’m still left with boxes full of “unclaimed” items. This is a very extreme example, of course, but I think we as women sometimes have a tendency to buy a little more than we need because there’s a good sale, or because we thought we would love the product more than we did. This is how I usually end up with 10 bottles of body wash [thanks, BOGOs!] that sit in my laundry room collecting dust for years.

Read more at >> www.glamorable.com | via @glamorableIf you are in a similar situation where you have a whole bunch of beauty products and samples piling up in some corner, why not donate them to a local women’s shelter? Giving away to friends is great, but giving to people who really need your support is a million times more rewarding. Remember, no donation is too small. Women often come to those shelters without having any basic personal care items like shampoo or toothbrushes, and even your smallest perfume vial sample and a foil packet of body lotion could help someone forget the horrors that led her to the shelter, if only for a moment.

When donating, unused products are the best – some shelters don’t accept items that look like they might have been opened. That is the reason why makeup is a rare commodity, since most of us swatch products even if we don’t end up using them.

Feminine care products make a good donation, too. Anything, that can help a stressed girl feel more comfortable is worth including in the mix. I’ve been promoting U by Kotex Curves® Liners for the past few months, because they really do feel comfortable and clean.

When paired with my local store’s deals, I sometimes ended up paying as little as 30 cents per box. By the way, in addition to high value coupons U by Kotex is offering everyone an opportunity to win some fun monthly prizes. This is such a good idea! I often end up giving them away to friends / family but should do this too.

Same here, I usually give the products to friends and family, and only recently started considering women’s shelters.

In September I donated a huge box (It had four or five smaller boxes inside) to a woman’s shelter in New York. They would take used items as long as they could be sanitized, as well as new. I gave them a ton of stuff from beauty subscription boxes that I didn’t use or used once, GWP I got but didn’t use, huge eyeshadow palettes from BH Cosmetics that I barely used, samples, just tons of stuff. I’d grown up in bad circumstances, and it was good to help women and girls who needed it. I’ll probably have another smaller box for them soon.
