Darby Smart DIY Box Unboxing and Review: Personalized Toasters Kit

I must confess: I’m not a crafty person. At all. I have never completed a DIY home project before, and the closest I’ve ever gotten was assembling my IKEA furniture. I’m still not sure how I managed to agree to try this kit, but I’m really glad I did.

The project I picked was sold out, so I told them to surprise me. In the end I received a kit to make personalized champagne toasters. How cute!

The contents included:

  • 3 Champagne Toasters (1 for practice)
  • Etching Cream
  • Alphabet Stencils
  • Brush
  • A pair of gloves

See, I would never have come up with an idea like that – to make your own special glasses. I would normally be that loser who buys an expensive set online and goes to a Hallmark store to get them personalized. I’ve done it so many times before, because they make perfect small presents for occasions such as weddings, anniversaries or even a bachelorette party.

For my test run I picked the corniest word you could think of… that’s right, it’s “LOVE”. I attached the stencils on my practice glass, applied a thick coat of the etching cream with the brush provided in the kit, waited 15 minutes, and washed off the excess with warm water. I had a few stains here and there so I grabbed a dish brush and gently brushed the glass for a more clean and polished look.

I was so pleasantly surprised with the end result! My glass looked perfect and the letters really stood out without looking tacky. I am going to keep the rest of this kit for the next time I have a “glass-giving” occasion to attend, where I will proudly announce that I made this present myself πŸ™‚
