I love deep blue and purple eye shadows, but they just don’t go well with my personal style when used all over the lid. I found a simple solution to rock them without feeling overdone: by using them as an eyeliner!
During my last ColourPop haul I noticed two stunners that I knew I had to add to my eyeliner collection – Lace and Etiquette. At the time, I didn’t recall seeing swatches for them, so I peeked at a couple blogs that would probably have them, and sure enough they were as beautiful as I imagined. Let’s just say, it took me about 5 seconds to tab back to my ColourPop cart and hit “Checkout” 🙂
Lace is described on the site as “deep rich blue violet with a pearlized finish”, and I think that’s a pretty accurate description. The formula has some very lovely blue, pink, and purple shimmers, as well as slightly chunkier glitter particles that look gorgeous when they catch the light!
Etiquette is described as a “true royal blue with pearlized finish”, and has an almost satiny sheen to it, because the shimmers are quite fine, yet still fairly noticeable. I think it’s less flashy than Lace, but still makes a fun upgrade from your basic black eyeliner.
Ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone, trimethylsiloxysilicate, isododecane, boron nitride, c30-45 alkyl cetearyl dimethicone crosspolymer, synthetic fluorphlogopite, cucumis sativus (cucumber) fruit extract, mangifera indica (mango) seed butter, aluminum calcium sodium silicate, calcium sodium borosilicate, dimethicone/vinyl trimethylisiloxy silicate crosspolymer, calcium aluminum borosilicate, silica, disteardimonium hectorite, propylene carbonate, phenoxyethanol, ethylhexylglycerin, tin oxide, glycine soja (soybean) oil. [ +/- aluminum powder (ci 77000), bismuth oxychloride (ci 77163), black 2 (ci 77266), blue 1 (ci 42090), blue 1 lake (ci 42090), bronze powder (ci 77400), carmine (ci 75470), chromium oxide greens (ci 77288), copper powder (ci 77400), ferric ammonium ferrocyanide (ci 77510), ferric ferrocyanide (ci 77510), green 5 (ci 61570), iron oxides (ci 77491), iron oxides (ci 77492), iron oxides (ci 77499), manganese violet (ci 77742), mica (ci 77019), red 40 lake (ci 16035), titanium dioxide (ci 77891), ultramarines (ci 77007), yellow 5 (ci 19140), yellow 5 lake (ci 19140)].
I’ve only ever tried wearing Lace and Etiquette as eyeliners, so I don’t know how they perform on the whole lid, but they both stayed well on my lashline, and even on the waterline when I used them to line my bottom lids a couple times.
Swatch reference: My skin tone is between MAC NC15 and NW15 with yellowish hue and neutral undertones. Sometimes I can wear NW20 in the Summer. I thought this would be useful to know, since all screens show colors differently, and I also don’t have a studio setup with consistent lighting. Hope that helps!
Oh, and in case you haven’t noticed yet, ColourPop’s Pearlized formulas are my favorite, followed by the mattes [many of which are actually satins]. They are usually highly pigmented, very blendable, and super easy to use – one or two finger swipes is all it takes for the perfect smokey eye or a wash of color!
WHERE TO BUY:
- Lace – $5 USD for 0.07 oz. Available at Colourpop.
- Etiquette – $5 USD for 0.07 oz. Available at Colourpop.

I’ve been hearing so much about this brand and I’ve never been disappointed in how beautiful their colors are. Love the shadows as liners.
I didn’t want to give in to the hype, because it seemed like it’s just something youtubers are pushing onto me as usual, but these products deserve all the praise they get. I am a HUGE fan!
These are beautiful! I’m all about purple, so I might have to grab lace. Love the soft wing!
Lace is a beautiful color for using as en eyeliner! Definitely worth picking up, because it’s quite different.
very very pretty!
Thank you!
These are both shades that I would totally own! Great post!
I’m glad you liked it!
I love love love lace!
Haha, yep, I instantly thought of you when I saw it. I was like “I bet Phyrra already has this one, it’s totally her style” 🙂
I bet Etiquette would look great over a black liner, too. I didn’t even think about using them for eyeliners, but their formula is so good, I’m not surprised they work like that. You’re so creative!
Thank you Nidia! These are the colors I absolutely adore and love seeing on others, but I just can’t pull them off, unless I use them as an eyeliner. They work really well!
Those are just too pretty. I always thought they’d be too soft for a liner but you changed that thinking.
Definitely not too soft! All you need is a nice thin and firm brush, like Maybelline Angled Definer Brush I use to apply these. It’s cheap and will last you forever – I had mine for years and it still looks pristine.
I’ve never thought of using my CP shadows as liners, but they have such a great formula I don’t see why not!
Right? They are so versatile!
I’m the same- I love dark, bold colors but they just don’t really suit me! Love the idea of using these as liners.
I bet these would look gorgeous on you, Chelsea!
I totally agree–dark shades don’t look great on me, but I LOVE colored eyeliner!
You might give these a try then! For the reference, I used Maybelline Angled Definer Brush to apply them. It’s a cheap brush, but it will last you forever.
Those are super nice shades. Yes, blue and purple e/s make great eyeliners!
They really do! I like them both, but so far I’ve worn the purple one more.
I love a color accent and with the right setting spray, it can def stay on!
That’s why I love my Skindinavia spray – my makeup won’t budge 🙂
Great picks! I really love a smoky olive too!
Mmm, smoky olive sounds dreamy! That’s something I can actually pull off 🙂
That is how I use a lot of intense colours like this, as well. Your liner application is great!
Thank you Erika! I think my brush is what makes it easy – I’m using Maybelline Angled Definer Brush, and it’s thin enough and firm enough for this kind of thing.
Great tip! 😀
I always love a vibrant color to use as a liner & these are gorgeous! I just ordered a few Colour Pop shadows and can’t wait to get them. 🙂
I hope you love them as much as I do, Natalie! The formulas are seriously the best, it really made me rethink a lot of high end purchases, because there’s just nothing better.
ohhh lace… why you so prettyyyy
I bet it will be gorgeous on you!
Nice bold colors for Autumn looks🍃🍂🍁
Thank you! I am loving these shades, especially the purple.
I purchased these exact same two for lining my eyes and I stumbled across your post because I’m not getting the effect that I want. How do you manage to get the pigmentation in your photos? Do you use primer?
Hey there! I wonder if they changed the formula since I bought these? I normally don’t use any primer (probably should, but too lazy), so the pigmentation is “as is”. For the look I used a simple angled brush, dipped it in the shadow, and achieved the line in 2-3 strokes on each eye.
