Birchbox July 2016 | My Last Box

It is the end of an era for me and Birchbox. This was the very first beauty box I subscribed to back in the summer of 2012, and I’ve been receiving my monthly surprises ever since. Four years of samples, lots of amazing discoveries and new favorites, but it’s time for me to finally pull the plug on the one subscription I never thought I would cancel. My decision came from the recent changes to Birchbox points system. The product review points gave me an incentive to feel more positive about the samples, even the ones that didn’t work well for me. With that bonus now gone, I was finally able to hit that “Unsubscribe” button and I don’t regret it one bit.

HOW IT WORKS:

At $10/month Birchbox subscribers receive 4-6 luxury samples and full-sized beauty products, tailored for them by a team of curators according to a personalized beauty profile. The value of each box usually ranges from at least $15 and can be as high as $70. Click here to join Birchbox, and don’t forget to use Ebates for 4% cashback!

It was fun while it lasted! With that said, I thought you guys might want to take a look at the products I received in my July box. Here they are!

CONTENTS:

1 // Marcelle Xtension Plus Curl Mascara [$14, available here] – Let’s start with my sample choice first! For the month of July all Birchbox subscribers had the opportunity to select a mascara sample of their choice to be included in the box. Since I already tried the other two options, I picked Marcelle Xtension Plus Curl Mascara. I love formulas that can help create and hold the curl throughout the day, and this one did the job so well I’m considering purchasing the full size! The price is actually not that much higher than drugstore mascaras, so i think it’s a great deal for the money.

2 // dr. brandt PoreDermabrasion [$58, available here] – I have a full-sized tube of this scrub and I’m not going to run out of it anytime soon. This exfoliant contains tiny particles that scrub away dirt, oil, and dead skin cells to reveal instantly brighter, polished complexion. I rarely use it because it’s quite abrasive, but I always reach for it when my skin needs to look presentable in 5 minutes.

3 // MDSolarSciences Daily Anti-Aging Moisturizer SPF 30 [$68, available here] – Sunscreens are my jam, and I love getting samples of different ones to try because I’m still on the hunt for that perfect HG formula. To be honest, I haven’t opened this one yet but I look forward to it! The ingredients look great, and the reviews look very promising.

4 // Cargo Blush and Bronzer Duo [$35, available here] – I know a lot of people love this duo, but I wasn’t a huge fan. It’s really hard to get a single color out of it without also grabbing the other, unless you apply your cheek products with fingers or an eyeshadow brush. The bronzer was a tad too orange for me, so I can’t use it for contouring, but the blush color was very pretty.

5 // TOCCA Bianca Eau de Parfum [$68, available here] – This has to be my new favorite fragrance from TOCCA lineup. It’s bright, citrusy, fresh, and very feminine like tea time in Italy. Bianca is perfect for breezy summer days!

BOTTOM LINE:

I think this was a pretty good last box! My favorite products are definitely TOCCA Bianca and Marcelle mascara, which I am planning to purchase in full size.

I got a different box in July, and it was OK. When my gift subscription is up in December, that’ll be it. I have discovered some products from Birchbox that I love, but I’m more often disappointed than delighted

The Cargo duo looks really nice and I agree with you, Dr Brandt skincare has me hooked.

While the fragrance would be given away I think the rest of the box is nice. I bought Birchbox for 3.5 years and finally decided I could have gotten a lot of products I’d use for that much money.

This was my first sub box too, and I cancelled 2 years ago and haven’t missed it :/

You had a good last box. It was my first and longest lasting subscription box. I loved receiving it every month but cancelled a couple years ago for the last time. I don’t need more samples floating around! The point system removal would have been the end for me too if I wasn’t already done with them.

I’ve been with them from the beginning, but their points change makes me sad and I cancelled one of my accounts last month (I had two so I could always get the curated and a surprise box). I’m about to cancel my remaining account as well, I just don’t find their samples to be worth $10 and there’s a lot of repetition anymore. Additionally, I’ve had terrible experiences with full sized orders placed in the last month. Every order has had a $5 shipping charge added, even though it says my order qualifies for free shipping (plus I’m Aces on one account). Also, my last order had an item missing and later I was told they don’t carry that product anymore. They offered a refund for the price, but no ‘sorry’ points or anything else for the hassle.
