Do you think sleek, wavy, or curly hair styles can only be achieved with a flat iron or a curling wand? So did I, until I was introduced to new 1907 by Fromm Square Thermal Brushes featuring a revolutionary rounded square shape, that makes blow-drying at home a breeze.
The collection includes three brushes:
- 2″ Small Square Thermal Brush – ideal for short to medium length hair, and for creating tight bouncy curls on long hair.
- 2.5″ Medium Square Thermal Brush – great for adding volume to all hair lengths, most efficient for medium to long hair. This is my personal brush of choice.
- 2.75″ Large Square Thermal Brush – perfect for styling extra-long hair and for adding lots of volume at the roots.
What makes 1907 Fromm Square Thermal series different from other brushes? First of all, it’s definitely the shape. Depending on the positioning of the brush, you can achieve three different looks: sleek and straight, wavy, or curly.
The barrels are coated with a layer of thermal ceramic, that helps protect your tresses from the heat and also to reduce static, which is super helpful if you have very fine hair like me [I’m practically a walking dandelion in the winter].
These brushes look and feel very sturdy; they all feature soft-touch handles for a comfortable non-slip grip. I really don’t like it when my brushes slip out of my hand during the blow-drying process, so I try to only buy the rubberized ones.
Last, but not least – the bristles. They are made of thick rippled nylon, that helps grab the hair and secure it in place, which in turn reduces the drying/styling time. I don’t know about you, ladies, but I could totally use those few extra minutes on something more pleasant, like a cup of coffee or something.
I first dried my hair in sections with the 2.75″ Large Square Thermal Brush to add some volume, then swapped it for 2.5″ Medium Square Thermal Brush to add some extra layers at the bottom. The whole process took me maybe 10-15 minutes tops, and that’s a pretty short time for a long hair like mine [I didn’t use any product by the way]. I liked how natural my waves turned out, and that they didn’t have those awkward sharp edges I sometimes get from a curling wand.
P.S.: In case you’re wondering about my makeup and accessories: earrings, lipstick, blush.

I’m awful. I just blow dry with my hands!
Girl, whatever works! I wish I didn’t need any tools either, but If I tried blow-drying with my hands, I’d look like my hair is totally flat at the roots, and poofy at the bottom, which doesn’t flatter my features at all.
This sound so innovative! I definitely could use 2 of the 3. But sometimes my hair gets wound up and caught in those kind of bristles. Did you have that issue at all? Your photos are fabulous, especially the last one, love it!
Thank you Allison! 🙂 I didn’t experience any tangles with these brushes yet, I think it’s because their nylon bristles are designed in a special way to hold the strands in a rolled position. My hair used to casually slip off the straight plastic bristles when I used my old brush, and that caused the tangles all the time.
My hair gets caught up in brushes, I think its the texture or something. These sound amazing though maybe it’s the brushes I have been trying and not my hair 🙂
Yikes, that sounds painful! I remember one time when my hair got sucked into the motor of my old hair dryer, that was quite an unpleasant experience. Well, for what it’s worth, my hair doesn’t seem to get stuck in these brushes; it’s like they grab the strands and hold onto them, but without the tangles.
I blow dry when I’m in a hurry or need some extra volume to my hair.
Blow-drying is perfect for volume, indeed. I have the thinnest, flattest hair ever, and nothing except a good blow dry can make it look nice.
I am the worst with blow drying with a brush! Whenever I get my hair done and they give me a professional blow dry I’m always amazed at the brush/hairdryer coordination haha. Sidenote- your lipstick is goooorgeous.
Thanks, girl! I’ve been riding the coral wave lately 🙂 As for the brushes, I’m just like you! I can never achieve the same look as what I get at a salon, no matter how hard I try. But I still want to learn 😉
I wish I was able to achieve a professional looking blow out! I love having a slight wave in my hair.
Wavy hair styles are so beautiful! I was in a flat iron stage a couple years ago, then switched to a tight and neat sock bun, then to curls and old Hollywood glamour; now I’m all about waves!
I usually airdry my hair but blow drying is a must when I need to get massive volume. I gotta say that the square shape is so interesting, it sounds like it might be more ergonomic than the round shape against my head.
If I could afford to air dry, I definitely would. My hair is very fine and permanently frizzy, so it’s either blow drying or a messy bun for me.
Unless I want a multi-wavy/curly/straight mess I blow dry. Even then I need the flat iron. I need that smooth brush in my life
Enabling at its finest, from one dandelion to another 😉 My hair is literally the grossest pack of tangled frizz if I just let it air dry.
I have a round brush, but it always makes my hair frizzy. These sound so interesting. You’re hair looks beautiful.
Thank you Cindy! I have a few round brushes, too, but I think it’s the bristles in these that help my hair dry straighter.
I have a couple of round brushes but I SUCK at home grown blowouts using them. lol
Girl, it totally takes practice! It took me FOREVER to learn, and I mostly watched Youtube vids for tips. Almost feels unfair that those gorgeous 16 year-olds can do makeup and hair better than me, lol!
They should all be locked in a dungeon. lol I could probably do better if I took the time to work at it. It’s easier to rough dry and grab my straightener. That is soooo bad for my hair, tho. 😛
I have a somewhat similar cylinder brush that I have had for years. I love how it works on my bangs and use it the most for that. I have been looking for a replacement as this one is showing its age. Your review has been timely for me.
Glad I could help!
I’ve never seen a squared brush before. It sounds so interesting. And if it gave me hair as gorgeous as yours it would be worth it’s weight in gold.
You are so sweet, Marcia! I have never seen square brushes either, I believe this is a brand new concept from Fromm.
That photograph of you is art. I’ve never given myself a blowout at home, but I’d love to try it someday, and I know I’ll need a good brush to do it with!
Aw thank you Nidia, that’s so sweet of you to say! <3 I only blow out my hair when I have time for it, but it always seems to be worth it, even if it doesn't end up looking professional. My husband always compliments my hair when I put in a little effort, whether it pays off or not 🙂
This sounds so nice! Of course your hair shot is impeccable as always!
Thank you Kath, you are so sweet 🙂 Means a lot coming from the queen of fabulous hair herself!
I definitely want to try these out!!! Love your do!
Thanks, girl! These are fab, especially for fine hair.
Very pretty! I can’t work my way around a round brush sadly.
Thank you, Justina! It took me a bit of practice to figure out how to operate those, too, so you aren’t alone 🙂
These are really nice. If my hair wasn’t so curly or I was egging for a blow out – I would totally try these 🙂
Honey, I honestly have no idea how you manage your gorgeous hair! I have total hair envy when I see your selfies, and no amount of blow drying will make my wimpy locks look like yours <3
That is so cool! Your hair looks so profesh!
Thank you Brooke, you’re the sweetest! <3
Your hair looks amazing!
Thanks, girl!
