Le Metier de Beaute Nail Lacquer Cocoa Cabana & Red Lodge Review, Swatches, Pictures

Several days ago you all read my Le Metier de Beaute Vault VIP box review, and probably secretly laughed at my vampy lips. Today I’m posting the promised swatches and review of the two nail polish colors, or Nail Lacquers as LMdB calls them: Cocoa Cabana and Red Lodge. Now that I’ve been testing them for over a week, I can actually tell you how they performed.

The first one I played with was of course Cocoa Cabana, just because I personally find the color more appealing. It came out in 2012 as part of a Limited Edition Fall Collection called “Cocoa Crazed”, but you can still find it sold at Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom, so I guess either the interest was low, or the supply wasn’t too limited after all. The color is described as bodacious brown with ochre undertones. The formula is surprisingly buttery and smooth, I had no problems with the wand or the application. The color went on evenly and reached full opacity after two coats. I wore Cocoa Cabana on my nails for at least seven days and it didn’t chip or fade. The tip wear was minimal, considering that I’ve been doing laundry, dishes and house cleaning.

Next up is Red Lodge, and as you know, I’m a bit indifferent to reds. I understand that they are classic and everything, but I feel that I am still young enough to goof around with other colors before timeless picks like red polish will look more appropriate for my age. I couldn’t find any information about this shade online, so going by my personal description, this is a medium cranberry red. The formula of this one is more on the streaky side, and slightly runny, so it might even pool over the cuticles if you’re not careful. I needed at least three coats to get a nice, even color, but the result was not fully opaque, because I could still see the tips peeking through. The wear is really nice, though, and just like Cocoa Cabana, lasted a full week without chipping. The polish did change color very slightly and became a tad bit darker, but not enough to get concerned about it, as most people probably wouldn’t even notice that change.

THE VERDICT
This is my first time using LMdB polishes, so I didn’t really know what to expect in terms of formula, but I clearly wasn’t disappointed. Both shades performed well, and provided seven days of chip-free wear, howeverRed Lodge changed its color a little but toward the end. The formula of Red Lodge is slightly thinner than Cocoa Cabana, which makes it streakier, but nothing 3 coats can’t fix.

It is! It’s a bit more blue-toned in person, my camera failed to capture the color 100% accurately.

Thnk you, Honey! I actually really love the look of the brown one, I guess I’m really digging all sorts of sands and beiges right now 🙂

I’m a negative Nelly here, I guess! $18 for the mini bottles, and one is a regular (albeit, runny) red, and the other is a poop brown (ochre undertones? what were they thinking..) I love brown polishes, too, but I’m not feeling either of these. I know LMdB can do much better!

Not a negative Nelly at all, Nidia, your opinion is important 🙂 While I agree that I personally wouldn’t buy these at $18 price point if I had to pay the full retail price, heck I wouldn’t even buy them half off, but people looking to find reviews for these polishes online probably already know how much they are, they’re just curious about the formula and the swatches. I will respectfully disagree about the brown shade, I actually really like it! I love me some poop undertones 😀
