Located in the heart of NYC on Manhattan, Ricky’s is inspired by everything that is New York. The company recently reformulated and relaunched their house brand nail polishes, presenting the RickyColor Collection [formerly Mattesse Elite]. There are 17 core shades plus seasonal collections, and I got to try six of them.

BRAND OVERVIEW

From style-conscious teenagers and their suburbanite moms to Hollywood celebrities and their professional stylists, Ricky’s NYC plays host to a diverse, cult-like following of clientele.”

AN01 Final Share Weekend is a bright neon cool pink creme, pictured with two coats of nail polish and a top coat. The color is very bright and fun, and the formula is super pigmented; could easily be a one-coater. The polish is a bit thick, making it a great option for stamping. The shade went on evenly without streaks and bubbles.

711 Rent Controlled is a medium warm poppy red creme, pictured with two coats of nail polish and a top coat. Goes on very smooth and streak-less, but the formula is also on the thick side.

954 5th Floor Walkup is a pastel seafoam creme, pictured with two coats of nail polish and a top coat. It was the thickest of the bunch, and I had to repaint one finger, because it seemed to streak a little. Stunning color nonetheless.

861 Rooftop Margaritas is a neon yellow creme jelly with fine cool green shimmer, pictured with two coats of nail polish and a top coat. This color is very unique, mainly because of the barely visible green shimmer peeking through. It’s semi opaque, so it can be used in a jelly sandwich with some glitters. Great color for Summer, I’ll definitely be rocking it this year!

919 Grade Pending is a very pigmented dark greige creme with a hint of purple [looks like this color is called Rum], pictured with two coats of nail polish and a top coat. The formula is just right, not too thin not too thick, making the application a breeze.

811 Bridge and Tunnel is a fine silver metallic foil, pictured with two coats of nail polish and a top coat. It really didn’t need the top coat at all, but I just like to add it to even out the texture. The formula is fantastic! The application was quick and even, without any streaks and smudges, and it dried very fast.

THE VERDICT
RickyColor polishes feature a nice fast-drying formula, but some colors are slightly thicker than others, making them great choices for stamping. I was especially impressed with Bridge and Tunnel silver foil, because it performed better than other metallics I’ve tried. On my nails the polish lasted 4 days before it started chipping.

    • April 12, 2014 / 11:26 am

Hi Noelle — That’s right, I was trying to remember what it looked like but couldn’t. I don’t think Funky Limelight had any green shimmer in it though, but the colors look so similar!

  9. April 9, 2014 / 8:18 pm

    • April 12, 2014 / 11:56 am

Hi Brooke — Glad you like the colors! The glossy effect is probably due to my top coat, but most of these polishes are glossy on their own.

    • April 12, 2014 / 11:57 am

Hi Laura — I didn’t doubt for a second that you would fall in love with that silver, after all you and I have such similar taste 🙂 It’s fabulous!

    • April 12, 2014 / 11:58 am

Hi Betzy — Glad you like that pink, it happens to be one of my favorite colors in this collection, too. Now all that’s left is for the weather to get better in my area so I could finally wear flip flops outside 🙂

  11. April 9, 2014 / 11:16 pm

I haven’t tried these yet – I did love Matesse Elite, though! The 919 greige is so my jam. Want!

    • April 12, 2014 / 12:11 pm

Hi Nidia — I haven’t tried Matesse Elite, or anything by Ricky’s before, so this was a brand new experience. It’s good to know that you liked their previous formula, since you are pretty much my trusted nail polish expert 🙂

  12. April 9, 2014 / 11:33 pm

Mint green and silver for the win. I like the font in the bottle.

    • April 12, 2014 / 12:12 pm

Hi Kath — Those two colors are fabulous, alone and together. I haven’t thought about it, but you’re right, the font is really cute.
