We all know that using primers helps makeup go on more evenly and stay put longer. Personally, even knowing all that, I usually found applying that extra layer kind of a chore, especially at Summer, when it’s hot and humid. Lucky for me, Skindinavia recently came out with The Makeup Primer Spray, aimed to solve that problem. The brand’s first launch in five years, these sprays in two varieties: Regular and Oil Control.
The Regular spray is formulated with a blend of Vitamin E to moisturize and smooth the skin while offering a natural UV barrier. Personally, I still use my SPF products, but I’m guessing this spray protects from the sun a little bit on its own, too, even when worn alone. Skindinavia recommends this spray for people with normal and dry skin.
The Oil Control spray introduces the first stabilized form of Vitamin B6, which is a great antioxidant for oilier skin types. Skindinavia promises that it won’t clog pores and will even reduce the appearance and size of enlarged pores over time, so it kind of works like skin care.
I’ve been testing both of these sprays, and I can definitely tell the difference in how they feel and wear. Since I have combination skin that can be very oily in the T-zone and a dry on the cheeks, I tested both primers at once by spraying them directly onto the areas they belong [regular on cheeks, oil control in the T-zone].
The application is super easy – just open the cap, shake, and spritz a few times on your face, then wait a few seconds for the formula to set and apply makeup as usual. The primer really doesn’t feel like anything: it doesn’t smell, doesn’t sting, doesn’t make the skin look or feel dry – can’t even tell if it’s really there.
Normally, my skin needs blotting after 3-4 hours, but on those days when I used The Primer Sprays my makeup didn’t need touchups for a full 6 hours, even if I spent some time directly outside in the sun, which is a really impressive record for those of us with oily T-zone.
I tried using both sprays on their own, too, and decided that I liked the Oil Control version more, because it actually addressed my skin’s specific concerns. It may be wishful thinking, but I really think my pores look a bit smaller, too, after using it almost daily for a few weeks under makeup.
Both Regular and Oil Control Primer Sprays are formulated without oil, sulfates, petroleum, parabens and silicones to be breathable, hypoallergenic and non-irritating. All Skindinavia products are cruelty-free.
THE VERDICT
Overall, I got the impression that Skindinavia’s new The Makeup Primer Spray will join my shelf of staples, because it’s the easiest-to-use primer I have tried so far, and it really delivers on its promises. I also like that the formula is petroleum and silicone-free, so it won’t clog my pores.

If im correct this is the same company that makes the urban decay de-slick sprays.not sure if you used it before but if you did I would love to know which one is better or if there is a difference.
Hi Lai! That’s correct, Skindinavia makes UD sprays, their De-Slick spray is a setting spray, while these two above are primer sprays. UD does have one primer spray – B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray (also made by Skindinavia) – and it works similarly to Skindinavia “Oil Control” Primer Spray. UD doesn’t carry a product that is comparable to the regular Makeup Primer Spray, which was formulated for normal and dry skin, so that one is currently exclusive to Skindinavia.
Totally forgot to mention something! While the ingredients in UD Prep Spray and Skindinavia Oil Control Makeup Primer spray are similar, both companies have different recommendations on how to use it. Skindinavia recommends using it as a makeup primer, while UD says it’s more of a complexion primer to use in the morning under the moisturizer and to refresh throughout the day. I personally go with the manufacturer’s recs, because I feel like they know better, but that’s just my opinion.
Skindinavia is a great brand. I’m not a big fan of sprays because they make me sneeze, lol, but I need a sample size bottle of their setting spray. Alcone Company sometimes has Skindinavia products as their Deal of the Day
I have been loving these primers too! What a genius idea!! <3
I really like the skindinavia brand
Skindinavia has such great facial sprays. I’m testing these out today. I do love their other sprays though.
These sound great! I have heard good things about Skindinavia.
I thought that I had this in the mail to me. You just reminding me to check on that! I am dying to try it. Great review!
Glad I read your responses in the comments, because I totally thought this was a setting spray! I’ve never heard of a primer spray.. well, I have a sample of the UD B6 spray, but I didn’t know how to use it, and now I do! I’ll have to look for the oil control spray. My oily skin needs all the help in this Florida heat that it can get!
Love this stuff!!
i have a deluxe sample of the oil control (the size you have in your picture) so I will give it a try but I have dry skin most of the time. Sometimes I get an oily T-zone so we’ll see what this primer does for me.
