IN THE BAG:
1 // Murad Sensitive Skin Soothing Serum ($65) – I tried a lot of Murad products so it’s pretty difficult to surprise me with something new unless it’s a fresh release. However, this serum is totally new to me and I was excited to give it a try! I loved that it comes in the form of a clear fragrance-free gel, and it works so well, too! The formula is packed with Hyaluronic acid and helps hydrate the skin so well, my dry patches all but disappeared. I think it will work best for people with dry and sensitive skin, or anyone experiencing skin peeling from strong resurfacing products. 5/5
2 // Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes™ 4-in-1 Mascara ($23) – I went through several tubes of this mascara throughout the years. It’s a good, reliable formula with a nice wand that grabs even the wispiest lashes, giving them length, volume, and definition. A solid addition to any makeup routine! 5/5
3 // Doucce Posh Powder Palette ($55) – I have a soft spot for face palettes, but this one was a miss for me. With so many amazing blush and highlighter formulas on the market, there’s just nothing special about this one. It was a bit difficult to swatch because the pans are all very chalky, but it was even harder to get the product on my brushes – the highlighters were particularly disappointing. The swatches might look good, but for the record, it took a lot of swipes and effort to make them look half-decent. There was one shade that I actually liked for color and performance – the bottom right one, so I’ll probably depot it into a Z-palette and toss the rest. 2/5
4 // Lauren Conrad The Liquid Eyeliner in Onyx ($20) – I know what you’re thinking, it’s just another black eyeliner, but I actually needed one so I had high hopes. This formula was a hit and a miss for me. The pigment appeared almost watered down so I had to build up the line several times before it actually looked opaque. However, the products stayed on pretty well and didn’t transfer despite the 90-degree heat, so that’s a plus. In the end, buildable pigment is not the end of the world, but it can be too much work when I’m short on time. 3.5/5
5 // Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Lip Pop ($22) – This is a dupe for me because I already have one in my makeup bag, but at the rate I’m using it, the replacement will come in handy in just a few weeks. This lip balm gives the lips a really nice, flattering pink tint plus the formula has gritty particles that help exfoliate the dead skin. Those gritty bits are made with flower extracts that dissolve into a buttery antioxidant boost. Glow Recipe also makes a blueish tinted lip balm, but the pink one is my favorite because it’s more universal. 5/5
BOTTOM LINE:
As you can see, this month was a hit and a miss, but at least the big ticket item – Murad Skin Soothing Serum – was a major hit, so I’m happy with this bag. I tried Doucce makeup before and it was decent, which is why I’m surprised that the face palette was so disappointing. I couldn’t find this particular palette online so maybe it got discontinued and we received old stock in our bags. That doesn’t mean it’s necessarily expired, but may explain some performance issues.
