Makeup trends are always so inspiring, and following them led me to some incredible self-discoveries. For instance, I never would have guessed that matte and semi-matte lipsticks look the best on me until matte lips were on-trend so I bought a couple of them to try. However, there are some trends that I deemed unwearable for my personal style, like all things glitter. Just take a look at Pinterest: it’s filled with beautifully styled photos of glitter beards, roots, lids, nails, lips, outfits, etc… While I do like to wear blingy nails on occasion, glitter anywhere else on my body seems to reveal my age [for those who don’t know, I turn 32 in a couple of weeks], because it emphasizes every imperfection.
With all that said, there is an exception to any rule, and Jouer Long Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadow [$30, available here] in Celestial strikes the perfect balance between classy and fun with its glistening champagne glow. Guys, I am obsessed. The formula is bouncy and smooth, and really easy to apply with a finger or a dense synthetic eyeshadow brush. I prefer the finger method because the heat from my skin helps the formula melt into the lids, providing better coverage and pigment distribution.
The wear time is impressive: on my oily lids Celestial, applied over Milani eye primer, lasted all day without melting off or forming creases. Actually, that seems to be the trend for many cream eyeshadows I tried, they somehow work better for those of us with oily lids than their pressed powder counterparts. As with all things glitter I expected fallout, but to my pleasant surprise there was none. Zero. Zilch! Needless to say, I am really curious to try other shades if I have an opportunity to buy them at a discount. At this time a jar of Jouer Long Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadow will set you back $30, which puts it in the same price category as other luxury cosmetics like Givenchy, Chanel, Dior, Burberry, and other big name brands.
To be perfectly fair, I think I could probably find a dupe from Colourpop which would save me $25 on every jar, but I tried a couple of their glitter eyeshadows before and they either creased or had fallout. At $5 a pop I can just keep on experimenting though. Or, you know, in a typical beauty blogger fashion, I can just haul from both brands 🙂
Long story short, I am impressed with Jouer Long Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadow formula, and the gorgeous ethereal glow it imparts on my lids. I’ve been wearing it alone and as a base for other eyeshadows, and it performed beautifully each time.
