Yuzen Box Review: Spring 2013

I believe this is the first box since Yuzen became a quarterly subscription. Words can’t describe how much I will miss getting my little box of zen every month, but I will respect their decision especially since it was made in order to preserve the high quality and value of the boxes.

The pink paper and ribbon represent the Spring season and the products are all about the much needed renewal and refreshment after these long winter months. I know that we should embrace all seasons but I really missed the sun and the blue sky. There is nothing more boring than looking at the same white scenery and the gray sky for several months straight.

About Yuzen Box:

Yuzen is a quarterly subscription service that costs $26/season. In your box you will receive a mix of eco-friendly, cruelty-free, natural and organic lifestyle and beauty products plus a sheet of authentic hand-crafted Yuzen paper (new paper every season, I thought it was a pretty cool touch). All products are either very generously deluxe-sized or full-sized. They ship USPS Priority mail so you only have to wait a couple days after receiving the shipping notification. Click here to sign up.

red flower little flower candle in Indian Jasmine
This tiny candle packs a serious fragrance punch and burns for 15 hours according to the claims on the box. I absolutely adore the jasmine fragrance so receiving this candle was a total win for me 🙂

KNEIPP Deep Sleep Mineral Bath Salts
I’m familiar with Kneipp brand and often buy their products. Valerian bath salts are meant to be used for relaxation and sleep aid purposes, but make sure to keep your cats away from them because valerian acts in the same way as catnip! 🙂

SPA TECHNOLOGIES Marine Repair Creme
I’ve been using this moisturizer for a week now and I still can’t decide whether I like it or not. It smells nice and fresh and feels very comfy when you apply it but I don’t know if it’s actually doing anything for my skin because it doesn’t feel or look any different. Usually I start seeing some first results after using new skincare for a week but with this one I didn’t. I guess that’s a good thing because it means I won’t be investing in a $100 moisturizer anytime soon.

NATUROPATHICA Espresso Mud Body Scrub
This scrub contains black clay, powdered pumice and ground coffee beans so it works to exfoliate, purify and even out the skin’s surface. The ground coffee beans also help reduce the appearance of cellulite by constricting blood vessels and plumping the skin.

EOV Eau de Parfum
I have previously reviewed this fragrance in one of my Sample Saturdays. This perfume smells similar to Urban Organic from A Perfume Organic, another citrusy/floral fragrance. It is a very unique blend that contains essential oils of lavender, rosewood, cedarwood, patchouli, palmarosa, geranium, litsea cubeba and clove. This sophisticated fragrance also won the Best Natural Product award at 2004 Fall Extracts Show in NYC.

JUARA Avocado Banana Moisture Mask
I used to own a full-sized tube of this mask but it didn’t quite work for me. I guess my skin was too sensitive to one or more ingredients because it was stinging really bad and my face always got all red and itchy. However, I know that this isn’t the normal reaction and I’m sure I can find someone to give it to, because Juara is a wonderful brand that makes natural skincare using only the finest ingredients.

Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip&Cheek Stain, Lip Plumper and Lip Drink SPF15
All three products feel really nice and creamy on the lips and all have great formulas. The Lip&Cheek Stain provides a lovely color that sort of appears over time and is unique from person to person. The lip plumper will be given away in one of my goodie bags that I keep for unexpected presents. The Lip Drink smells just like Burt’s Bees lemon oil cuticle balm and leaves a slight white residue but it moisturizes even the driest lips in seconds.

NOVA MONDA Chocolate Truffle Hearts
Both truffles were filled with thick whipped dark chocolate mousse and coated in delicious dark chocolate crust. The heart-shaped truffle was flavored with extra cocoa powder while the round one was dusted with big chunks of sea salt. Both flavors were fantastic and this lovely duo would make a great and inexpensive gift to any dark chocolate lover.

What an amazing box! I guess making it quarterly makes sense for them, too bad other subscriptions didn’t worry about the quality of their boxes, people might be happier. Such fun items to try and a great value. Enjoy your goodies 🙂

Yuzen is truly a unique subscription and I’m still amazed at their quality control starting from the customer service to the selection of products and sample sizes. It almost sounds like it’s too good to be true!

As always, I love my Yuzen box. I don’t think anything can make me happier. 🙂 The Juara also stings me a bit when I apply it, but it’s a gentle refreshing kind of “sting” (sort of like eating a cinnamon candy) and then it fades and I feel great when I wash off the mask. Maybe you’re allergic to one of the ingredients?

I got the italian blood orange red flower candle and it smells great – warm and sweet yet citrusy too. It’s the first candle I’ve burned since middle school and now I’m hooked on candles again.

That’s kind of what I was thinking and I believe it’s one of the main dangers of natural skincare. No biggie, I know it’s a great product and whoever I give it to will probably enjoy it 🙂

Mmm Italian Blood Orange sure sounds heavenly. And I agree, these candles are very addicting and I was just looking to get some more on eBay 🙂
