Here’s a short and straight-to-the-point intro for you: if you don’t already double cleanse, you should start right now. Contrary to popular belief, double cleansing doesn’t strip the skin of its protective barrier, but a single cleanser with bad pH can do that much damage alone [and most cleansers on the market are harsh!].
I think double cleansing method is the quickest and most efficient way of removing different types of impurities from the skin’s surface and within the pores. Remember, oil dissolves in oil, right? So it only makes sense to start your routine by massaging a dollop of cleansing oil into the skin, focusing on your problem areas, then rinsing off the residue and dissolved impurities with a gentle SLS-free pH neutral foam cleanser.
And like most skincare trends these days, double cleansing came to us from Korea, so today I wanted to talk about one of my recent favorites – Whamisa Organic Flowers Cleansing Oil [$38 at Glow Recipe].
Whamisa brand is known in Korea and abroad for their knowledge of time-tested formulations presented with a modern twist. Their products include high concentrations of potent fermented natural and organic plant extracts, and Organic Flowers Cleansing Oil is the second product from this brand that I tried so far. Here’s the product description from Glow Recipe:
Whamisa utilizes a natural fermentation process to distill and preserve the potency of select natural ingredients. This mineral oil free Whamisa Organic Flowers Cleansing Oil is formulated with a blend of botanical oils that deeply cleanse the skin from makeup, leaving it fresh and balanced.
Ingredients: *Corylus Avellana (Hazel) Seed Oil, ☆Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, *Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, *Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, *Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, *Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, *Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, **Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, **Paeonia Suffruticosa Root Extract, **Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, *Lactobacillus/Chrysanthemum Sinense Flower Ferment Filtrate, *Lactobacillus/Nelumbium Speciosum Flower Ferment Filtrate, *Lactobacillus/Dandelion Leaf/Root Extract Ferment Filtrate, Aniba Rosaeodora (Rosewood) Wood Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Geranium Maculatum Oil, ***Fragrance || *Certified Organically Grown **Natural Preservative ***Natural Fragrance ☆Natural Origin
CosDNA ingredient analysis puts a few ingredients as potential acne triggers – Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, and Olive Oil. I have used all of them on their own on my face before, and I did get some clogging issues with Jojoba Oil, but not with the others. I wouldn’t worry about it too much though, because since this is a cleanser, those potentially pore clogging ingredients will go right down the drain.
Whamisa Organic Flowers Cleansing Oil comes packaged in a beautiful cardboard box, and the pump bottle itself is very elegant. How cute are those flowers? The oil feels runnier than I’m used to so I had my doubts about its effectiveness [my favorite cleansing oils tend to be on a thicker side], but it does seem to remove base makeup really well. The company promised it can also remove eye makeup, but I ended up having to finish the job with a dual phase makeup remover instead. After rinsing off Whamisa Organic Flowers Cleansing Oil, my skin felt fresh and petal soft, and the pores looked cleaner and smaller. I will definitely continue using it on a daily basis!

Smaller pores? Sign me up! 🙂
Yup! Cleaner = smaller 😀 My pores can be so stretchy sometimes, and when they are congested they look like huge craters.
I used to use a cleansing oil but when it was used up I didn’t continue. I should start again.
I’m a huge fan of cleansing oils! Even if it’s just plain coconut or sweet almond oil, I try to use something as my first cleansing step all the time.
I haven’t been using it lately tho my cleansing oil is sitting on my sink. I should
I can’t imagine my daily routine without a cleansing oil anymore. It’s one of those things I never knew I needed 🙂
I blame you for getting me addicted to CosDNA on Christmas Eve at my parents’ house! I’m sitting here, looking at my skincare labels and typing away. What a find! I have to revamp my entire routine – no wonder I’m getting pimples. Thanks for bringing that lifesaver website on my radar.
I know, right? I fell into total ingredient zealotry thanks to that site, and now finally slowly crawling out of it as I do more research. But it definitely helps eliminate the triggers!
Love a cleansing oil like cake. It is so nourishing.
I can’t imagine my routine without a good cleansing oil 🙂
I use cleansing oil specifically to get my eye makeup off, since I find that’s the most stubborn for me, so I’d probably pass on this one… however I am getting super sucked into Korean skincare lately!!
Korean skincare is so addictive, isn’t it? While this particular cleanser didn’t fare well for my waterproof mascara, there are other products I could use for that. As long as it dissolves my base makeup and breaks down my sunscreen I’m a happy camper 😀
