I am happy to introduce you to another fantastic product that I recently reviewed – Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil, which is the first step in TATCHA daily beauty ritual. It’s formulated without mineral oil, synthetic colors, artificial fragrances, sulfates, parabens, phtalates, urea and other bad chemicals, making it suitable even for people with sensitive skin.

Wouldn’t you agree that TATCHA‘s muse, modern day geisha Kyoka-san, has absolutely gorgeous skin? In Japan this particular quality is called mochi-hada, which means “baby skin”, and I think it’s a very accurate description. For generations, geisha have been known for being the pinnacle of perfection – from their impeccable manners, to the way they wear kimono; it’s no surprise they hold proper skincare in high regard. They believe that cleansing is the most important step to achieve mochi-hada, so they use tsubaki [camellia] oil to melt off makeup and wash away impurities. You can read more about Kyoka-san’s skincare ritual here.

TATCHA Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil comes in a convenient pump bottle, making it very easy to dispense just the right amount of product: I found that one pump to be sufficient for cleansing my entire face and neck area; for waterproof or heavy makeup I use two pumps.

Cleansing oils are meant to be used slightly differently than your regular cleansing products. The correct way is to rub the oil into dry skin with dry hands for at least one full minute; that will allow the formula to penetrate deep into the pores and give it enough time to break down the elements binding makeup and dirt to the surface of your skin. When you think that you gave the formula enough time to work its magic, simply wash everything off with lukewarm water to reveal clean, radiant and petal-soft skin.

Even though this is an oil, it doesn’t make the skin feel greasy at all, which is something I was concerned about because I have combination skin, prone to excessive oil production and occasional breakouts in the T-zone area. After using this cleanser for 2 weeks I have not experienced any increase in oil production, breakouts, or irritation, and my skin looks healthier and feels softer than before. If anything, it seems like my skin is more balanced, with drier patches being less dry and oilier spots less oily.

THE VERDICT
TATCHA Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil proved to be a very convenient cleansing product, effectively removing even the toughest waterproof makeup in one single step. Highly concentrated formula makes one bottle last a long time, and pump packaging reduces the risk of contamination and dispenses the perfect amount of product. I would definitely recommend this product to people with every skin type, even dry and sensitive, because of its gentle formula, free from harsh chemicals and artificial fragrances.
