SquareHue October 2016 review, swatches

Oh hey, my nails finally stopped being a major pain in the neck and decided to stop splitting and breaking, so I can finally review the latest nail polishes from one of my favorite subscriptions. As you remember, this year all monthly mini-collections are inspired by exotic locales around the world, and SquareHue October 2016 box is taking us to Venice! My husband and I visited this gorgeous city a few years ago for Christmas, and I can say that this trio of polishes totally nailed the ambiance of this charming destination.

HOW IT WORKS:

For $21/month, SquareHue subscribers receive a limited edition collection of 3 carefully curated season-appropriate nail polish colors. Alternatively, the company recently launched a 2-polish box variation that costs $10.99/month + Shipping & Handling. Each month has a distinct personality to suit a variety of dress needs. Quick drying “5-Free” Clean formula does not contain Formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP, Camphor or Formaldehyde Resin. Click here to subscribe.

First nail polish from SquareHue October 2016 box I tried is Campo San Moisè, a deep blood red. The color is an instant classic, and I can see myself wearing it every day during the cold season. I also find it oddly appropriate that a bloody red is included in the October box, just in time for Halloween 😉 The formula has medium consistency [not too thick, not too runny], and good pigmentation. In the swatches below I used two coats of Campo San Moisè topped with one coat of Seche Vite.

Second nail polish I tested was Santa Maria del Giglio, a medium mushroom gray that also gives me those fall vibes. Something about wearing darker, cooler shades in October and November feels right, don’t you think? Santa Maria del Giglio is a highly pigmented one-coater with thicker consistency, so for the swatch below I used just one coat of polish, topped with Seche Vite. You really don’t need any more than that, the coverage is superb!

Finally, the last nail polish in this month’s Gondola Venice collection – Canal Grande – is actually my favorite of the three. This cool-toned medium aqua creme is loaded with little pieces of silvery shimmer; it reminds me of the way Venetian canals looked on a cold rainy day when hubs and I were there. To preserve that muted beauty, I decided to forgo the top coat and just used a couple layers of nail polish instead. The result: semi-glossy, slightly textured surface that looks unique and very pretty.

BOTTOM LINE:

SquareHue October 2016 is easily one of my favorite trios to date. The inspiration behind the Gondola Venice collection is spot on, and each one of the shades makes sense. The colors work really well for the upcoming F/W season, especially that burgundy. But really, all three are super pretty, don’t you agree?

Does this trio remind you of Venice? What is your go-to nail color for fall? Let me know in the comments below!

I have a shelf of Square Hue polishes and I love the bottles. I stopped my subscription since there were too many shades I wouldn’t use but I did enjoy it.

What a fab sub box! I don’t change my polish enough to warrant a sub box–so sad.
