SquareHue November 2015: The Decades – 2000

pr sample

The millennium is the decade I am most familiar with, after all that’s when I spent my teen/early adult years so I was fully aware of things like local and international trends, pop culture from around the world, and what my friends think is cool. Because when you’re a teen, that stuff matters [or at least it did to me, because I was your average textbook teenager]. So what did SquareHue prepare to commemorate the decade most of their subscribers remember all too well? Three silver polishes, that’s what!

Never Forget 2001 – a muted silver metallic. The 9/11 reference bothers me a little, because it’s a terrible tragedy and I feel uncomfortable thinking I now have a nail polish named after that day. That aside, I’m always intimidated by metallics because I’m not skilled enough to apply them without streaks. Unfortunately, I failed trying to even out this one, too. On a positive note I actually thought this color was well-pigmented and fast-drying, which are both qualities I look for in my polishes.

Idol 2002 – silver micro glitter suspended in clear base. It’s obviously named after American Idol show that first aired in 2002, although I actually wasn’t super interested in it back then. It’s a beautiful topper that I love wearing on its own!

Hurricane 2005 – a platinum metallic, named after the devastating Hurricane Katrina. Remember what I said about metallics? I actually nailed the application of this one, pun intended! I also love the platinum/gunmetal shade, it’s quite rare that I find a dark silver nail polish with such great formula these days.

THE VERDICT: I thought this monochromatic trio was a fairly unorthodox choice. Even though I like silver polishes I was still left disappointed; after all there are so many other things they could have referenced. The collection was cohesive, but kinda depressing, don’t you think? Luckily, I already have my final December trio to play with and it’s glorious! Stay tuned for another review soon 😉
