Sample Saturday: Beecology

I received Beecology samples in my Beauty Sage boxes a few weeks ago and really liked both the shampoo and the hand & body lotion. I was really curious to see what else they had to offer so I emailed the company directly asking them to send me a couple other products to try. What I ended up receiving exceeded my expectations and then some!

I requested the samples using the contact form on the main website, and next day I received a USPS email notification that Beecology sent samples to my address. When the samples arrived 3 days later they were beautifully packaged and included a lovely handwritten note from Amy Rzepka who happens to be one of the owners. I really appreciated this little personal touch and the adorable packaging, it really left a good impression about the company and made me think they treat both their current and potential customers with care, just like they care for their bees.

Cucumber and Green Tea Hand & Body Cream
I have tried this product before through Beauty Sage. This lotion smells very fresh – think aloe vera meets cucumber kind of scent. I like that it’s non-greasy, it really leaves my hands and body soft and nourished like a heavier cream would. My skin literally soaks it up like a sponge! So it’s perfect for anyone with oily or combination skin, especially if you are prone to chest or back breakouts, as it doesn’t seem to clog the pores or leave any residue.

Honey & Botanical Sulfate-Free Shampoo and All Natural Conditioner
I love sulfate-free hair care, it is perfect for my colored hair! This shampoo is nice and creamy and smells like honey and flowers. As with all sulfate-free shampoos, you need a lot to thoroughly clean your hair but the result is totally worth it. As soon as I made the switch I noticed that my hair is thicker, healthier and shinier than it was before. The conditioner is also very rich and creamy and instantly made my hair feel much stronger. I love that Beecology products are all 100% natural and preservative-free, I think I’ll be buying my shampoos and conditioners exclusively from them from now on.

“Lavender & Honey” Soap Bar
So the first soap I tried was the lavender one, I used it on my hands. Normally I’m not a big fan of lavender scent because it can be too overpowering which usually gives me headaches, but the amount of lavender in this particular soap bar was beautifully balanced with olive oil, coconut oil, and honey and resulted in a great relaxing fragrance. I think this might have been the first time I actually enjoyed lavender in my beauty routine. The scent lingers on the skin for about an hour after washing.

“Dead Sea Mud” Soap Bar
Second soap I tried was the Dead Sea Mud one, I used it on my chest and back which often suffer from occasional breakouts. I like that it doesn’t contain any extra ingredients like perfumes and dyes, because for me the whole point of soap bars is not looking pretty in rainbow colors but doing a simple job – cleanse my skin of impurities. My back and chest felt squeaky clean and a little tingly, which is my skin’s natural reaction to potent Dead Sea mud.

“Yogurt & Honey” Soap Bar
And last but not the least, I tried this soap on my face since from the description it was supposed to be the most hydrating out of the three. I normally wash my face with liquid or foam cleansers because soap bars usually strip my skin of too much oil, but this one didn’t. I actually felt the skin on my face being on the edge of being squeaky clean, but not quite there, which is precisely what I would want from a facial soap bar. The only other soap that could manage to do it was L’Occitane Shea Butter ultra rich face soap but it’s been out of stock for months. Since Beecology soap costs only half as much and delivers the same results, I will be buying it from them from now on instead. The fragrance is lovely as well, I love juniper scent and usually it’s too manly for me so I mostly buy products scented with it for my husband. But the juniper oil in this soap is mixed with honey and coconut oil which makes the scent a lot more unisex. I seriously can’t stop smelling it!

One more thing I want to add about all of the soaps mentioned above, they will all last a long time. Normally a bar this size (talking about the samples, I haven’t tried the full-sized ones yet) would take me maybe 3-4 full body washes to finish, but these samples still appear almost untouched after I used them several times already.

Well, this is all I had to say about my Beecology sampling experience. These products will make wonderful gifts to any honey lovers, or anybody looking to try some great natural products. The prices in their online store are very affordable, and there are also several places across the country that carry their products. See the list of locations here.
